Today we’d like to introduce you to Pa Chia Xiong.
Hi Pa Chia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Pa Chia Xiong, and I started as a self-taught graphic designer at the age of fourteen. I loved creating banners for fan fiction authors and found joy in bringing their stories to life through visual design. That passion for storytelling led me to explore more art forms and pursue my graphic design studies at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles, California.
During my eight years in Los Angeles, I learned about fashion, wholesale production, and discovered my love for photography—especially beauty and portraits. When I returned home to Minnesota and Wisconsin, I continued building my experience in customer service, management, and eventually opened my own photography studio in St. Paul, MN.
Today, I continue to design and photograph portraits with an artistic eye, creating timeless imagery that reflects authenticity, confidence, and beauty.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Self-doubt and self-belief have both played big roles in my journey. The phrase “just believe” is something I’m still learning to embrace, but it really is the best advice — because belief is what reminds you that you’re worthy, that your dreams matter, and that you have the courage to take a chance on yourself. Being an entrepreneur has taught me that it all begins with the values and standards you set for yourself. If I hadn’t believed in my graphic design skills, I would’ve never left the Midwest to pursue a career in the entertainment design industry. I’ve also learned that every path leads you somewhere, but it’s okay to step off when it no longer feels right. You get to decide how to design your own life and not every opportunity needs to be taken, and that’s perfectly okay.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a graphic designer and portrait photographer. My focus is on women’s portraits because that’s what speaks to me the most. It’s deeply satisfying to witness the transformation I can help guide for each woman—from choosing outfits and poses to capturing their most natural expressions. I love every part of the process. My goal is to create beauty, joy, and a sense of confidence in every image.
Beyond photography, I create Hmong-inspired art for everyday products. I am especially proud of my Hmong Xauv designs, which I’ve featured on t-shirts, leggings, and tote bags. My art is a statement of cultural pride and identity, meant to be worn boldly and proudly.
Throughout the year, I also collaborate with small businesses to build their marketing campaigns and strengthen their visual presence. What sets me apart is my visual standard and the creative freedom I bring to every project.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
If you’re looking for portraits, I offer both personal and professional sessions to make you feel confident. These are one-on-one, 30-minute sessions where my full attention is on you so we can create the best results. Whether you need a headshot, a creative portrait, or event coverage, I’ll guide you through every step to create timeless images that reflect your personality and story. I’ll also be launching a fundraiser soon to upgrade my equipment, with special tiers available in exchange for your support — stay tuned.
