Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Adams.
Hi Patrick, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began writing children’s books in 2014 while on a sabbatical in Asia. At the time, I had three children, and they inspired my first children’s book called Lisa Goes to England, which is about three kids traveling the world with a magical stuffed animal named Lisa. Lisa’s magical power is that she can transform into anything! I self-published that first book and it was quickly followed up with Lisa Goes to France and Lisa Goes to Australia. The series is known as “Amazing Lisa” and is targeted towards readers aged 4 to 8. The series now includes adventures in India, Japan, and Brazil. The book series has won several awards.
In 2015, my fourth child, Rhythm, was born but was seriously premature. She pulled through and everything looked good for a full recovery, I started a new book series for beginning readers called Rhythm’s World, and the goal was to teach kids about different topics. The first book in the series is called The World of Rhythm, which is about musical instruments. After that book was published, Rhythm began having seizures and was diagnosed with Infantile Spasms and PVL (petri-ventricular Leukomalacia), which were a result of oxygen deprivation during her premature birth. The second book in the series is called Rhythm’s Fantastic Friends, which is about important people in a child’s life. While not making the book about Rhythm’s illness, I did make sure to address it with some of the people in the book like Doctors, Nurses, and Therapists. Rhythm has improved a lot in the last several years, and we hope for a normal life for her. Her books imagine life and are upbeat and fun. A sub-series of this is called Rhythm’s World Tour, which focuses on continents and countries around the world. Rhythm now also has a little sister named Lyric, who is joining her in this book series.
I began working on music in 2018 as an accompaniment to the books. My first song, Amazing Lisa Rocks!, was written and released that year. I had so much fun bringing a song to life with my friend Annie Lynn, that I wanted to work on a second song, which became Rhythm’s World, released in 2020. After that, I decided to work on an album that featured songs to accompany each of my books (10 total at that time), which became Amazing World, released in 2021. I released an EP called The Friends EP in early 2022 and then my follow-up album called Travel Time with Patrick in June 2022. That album featured songs about many awesome ways to travel! On March 10th, my newest album called Kindies Do the ’80s (Volume 1) was released. On this album, I cover 80’s classics with fellow Kindie artists Esther Crow, Todd’n’Tina, Jumpin’ Jamie, Kath Bee, Animal Farm, Tim Seston, EVT Kids, and Sarah Elizabeth. A Volume 2 and 3 are in the works as well as a proper follow-up to Travel Time with Patrick called Adventure Time with Patrick.
In 2021, I started a podcast called Kindie Rock Stars, which features children’s musicians and artists’ interviews and their songs, albums, and videos or even live performances. The show has now run for 3 seasons and 263 episodes. Season 4 will kick off this April.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but it has been exciting and enjoyable. I have learned a lot about both the book business and music business, the ups and downs, and the successes and failures. The biggest struggles have been around how best to market and connect with an audience that might enjoy my stories or my music.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My creative professional outlet is my company, Patrick Adams Books & Music, LLC. The multi-faceted entertainment company has several Focuses:
1) Amazing Lisa Productions – all books, publishing, and features of the Amazing Lisa children’s book series
2) Rhythm’s World Productions – all books, publishing, and features of the Rhythm’s World children’s book series
3) Lyric Star Music – my independent record label, where I publish my music as well as other artists, including Jen Adams.
4) Consulting and Publishing – in addition to my output, I have worked with other authors to both consults with and publish their children’s books
5) Patrick Adams (Children’s Musician) – all music and music videos and my podcast Kindie Rock Stars are all part of this focus.
What’s next?
In addition to continuing my book series and music, I want to become an expert in music production and also add significantly more artists to Lyric Star Music. I’d eventually love to be able to tour with my music by creating a fun and interactive show.
As a bigger dream, I’d love to see either (or both!) of my book series receive consideration for a TV show or cartoon and for one of my songs to get licensed for a commercial or movie. I’d also love for Kindie Rock Stars to evolve into a worldwide show celebrating children’s musicians across the globe.
