Meet Rosilynn Morris of Find Your Piece

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosilynn Morris

Hi Rosilynn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
From an early age, I felt a deep connection to children and families. Growing up, my family provided foster care for children aged newborn to two years old. During my high school years, we adopted my brother. This personal experience with foster care and adoption introduced me to field of social work. It also sparked my belief in the power of advocacy, stability, family, and connection.

I graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work. After spending four years as a county case manager, I returned to my alma mater to earn a master’s degree in Clinical Social Work. Since then, I’ve focused my clinical passion on exploring the intersections of early childhood mental health and complex trauma.

I began my career as a Day Treatment Child and Family Therapist, working with young children who were experiencing disruptive and externalizing behaviors as a result of their complex trauma. Four days a week, I co-facilitated group therapy for children that fostered safety, predictability, clear limits, consistency, and encouragement. I also provided individual therapy, support in school, and in-home family therapy. This role was both rewarding and challenging. I faced everything from being spit at to dealing with bite marks and bruises, all while hearing every colorful cuss word imaginable. Yet, amidst the chaos, I had the privilege of working with some truly resilient and lovable children and families, many of whom I still cherish to this day.

In my next role, I worked as a therapist at a culturally specific organization serving Native American children, adolescents, and adults. I provided mental health therapy that integrated evidence-based treatment with Indigenous knowledge, creating a holistic approach to clinical practice and healing. The populations I served often presented concerns related to generational and historical trauma, complex family systems, substance use, and grief and loss. In addition to individual and family therapy, I also provided school-based therapy at an elementary school focused on Native American language and culture.

While my work as a therapist has always been deeply meaningful, the relentless pressures of community mental health eventually led to burnout. Toxic workplace environments, pay inequality, micromanagement, rigid hours, overwhelming caseloads, minimal support, and the ongoing battle of unhealthy work-life balance were just some of the many obstacles I faced over the years. Despite countless efforts to push back, advocate for change, and ask the tough questions, it became clear that there are systemic issues in this field that prevent dedicated therapists from truly thriving. After six years of education, (including three years of unpaid internships) and nearly four years working in the field, I realized I couldn’t let these challenges diminish my passion for this work. So, I made the decision to prioritize my own mental health and well-being.

In July 2024, I channeled my energy into creating something deeply meaningful and healthy for myself: my own private practice, Find Your Piece! As a private practice therapist, I specialize in supporting kids, teens, and adults navigating the complexities of childhood trauma, relational issues, complex stress, school difficulty, and generational trauma. With a blend of humor, authenticity, and a culturally responsive, social justice-oriented approach, Find Your Piece is dedicated to help individuals rewrite narratives and rediscover their true selves.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Has it been a smooth road? Absolutely not! I’ve faced countless curveballs, bumps, and bruises along the way—so many that I’ve lost count. Taking the leap of faith to leave community mental health and start my own practice was an obstacle in itself. But, I’m so glad I did!

Right now, my biggest challenge is learning how to run a successful business without any prior knowledge in that area. I went to school to be a therapist, not a business owner. Business management, finances, marketing, advertising, website creation, SEO… the list of things I don’t know is honestly overwhelming.

Currently, I’m embracing a “learn as I go” approach – relying heavily on trial and error, staying true to my values, quieting my inner critic, finding the humor, and staying present throughout the process.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Find Your Piece ?
Find Your Piece is a mental health sanctuary where compassionate, culturally-responsive, social-justice oriented therapy awaits. As a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, I wholeheartedly believe in the transformative power of therapy. My authority lies in understanding early childhood trauma-where wounds often first take root. I specialize in guiding children, teens, and adults who’ve weathered complex childhood storms to navigate past wounds, conquer emotional challenges, explore their unique strengths, and build resilience.

What sets me apart as a therapist is my commitment to showing my authentic self and humanness. I bring a blend of wit, humor, and deep compassion to our sessions. I’m fiercely dedicated to humanizing mental health support and transforming conversations about mental health stigma.

What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is my website. I poured thousands of hours into teaching myself how to design a website and write copy that reflects my personality while connecting deeply with my ideal clients. I wanted every element and detail to evoke an emotional response, making visitors feel seen, understood, and invited in. Crafting a visual narrative that resonates with the diverse experiences of my audience was also essential to me. I believe representation in imagery is crucial and wanted everyone who visits to feel recognized and valued.

As a private pay therapist, I prioritize working directly for people, not their insurance networks. Insurance often imposes restrictions on sessions and treatment methods based on diagnoses, which may not align with individual’s healing needs. By choosing a private pay model, I am able to craft a therapy experience matches individuals preferences and goals exactly, without outside restrictions.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I’ve always been a goofy, animated, musical, social, and determined person. I enjoy singing, dancing, making people laugh, sunbathing, spending quality time with my family and friends, and traveling whenever possible.
