Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosilynn Morris.
Hi Rosilynn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Rosilynn and. I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and Find Your Piece is my private therapy practice. I specialize in complex trauma and offer compassionate, culturally responsive therapy for children, teens, and adults across the lifespan. My approach honors each person’s unique story, identity, and lived experience, supporting them in making meaning of their experiences, healing, and creating lasting change.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey in private practice has definitely had its ups and downs. I’m nearly two years in, and I’m still learning a lot along the way. I’ve had to push myself outside of my comfort zone in ways I didn’t necessarily anticipate when I started. I’ve learned how to market myself authentically on social media, develop workshops and CEUs to share awareness and insight beyond the therapy space, step into public speaking, build and sustain a caseload, and expand my practice to include board-approved supervision.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I started using social media as a personal challenge to myself, with the goal of increasing the visibility of my practice. I started with Instagram, sharing inspirational and psychoeducational content. At the same time, I secretly kept a running list in my notes app of “silly little video ideas” that I wanted to make. I had plenty of ideas, but I held back from actually posting them because I was afraid of being judged. What will people think? Why is she posting like an influencer when she has so few followers?
Eventually, I decided to just do the damn thing and posted my first Instagram Reel. Surprisingly, the traction and engagement were significantly higher than what I had received on my previous “safe” posts. So, I kept going. With each video, I showed a little more of my personality, my authenticity, and the type of clients I work with.
Over the next year, though, I realized my reach on Instagram had become stagnant. Yes, I had followers, but many were people who knew me in real life and weren’t necessarily engaging with my content. Someone suggested I start posting my content on TikTok. I was hesitant, but eventually decided to make the leap.
Wow. What a complete 180.
Videos that had received fewer than 500 views on Instagram were suddenly taking off on TikTok, reaching numbers I had never experienced before: 10,000 views, 55,000 views, 109,000 views. Once I started gaining traction on TikTok, something else shifted. I became more authentic, less apologetic, and much more willing to be messy and chaotic.
That has ultimately become the style of my content. Real, authentic, messy, and vulnerable. I showcase the unhinged moments, the messy parts, the ugly parts, the funny moments, and the things that don’t always fit neatly into the polished version of therapy. More than anything, I want my content to offer a more accurate picture of what my work as a trauma therapist actually looks like and sounds like.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Dancing has always been one of my favorite ways to have fun and move my body. I’ve never danced professionally, but I’ve always had a natural sense of rhythm. Learning “silly little TikTok dances” for marketing purposes as a therapist has been such a fun and unexpected way to bring something I already love into my content while letting more of my personality show up in my work.
