Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Herzog.
Hi Sandra, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have a BFA in graphic design and have worked in that field as a freelancer for 30+ years. When COVID hit, like many businesses, mine slowed way down.
Interiors has always been my first love and I had been wanting to transition to that. This was a perfect time to do so. I spent approximately six months conducting research on what it means to be an Instagram Influencer. I didn’t have an Instagram account, so I created a personal account and followed accounts that I would want to emulate. After six months, I took the plunge and started my creator account.
That was October of 2019. Today I have 102K followers.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There are always ups and downs when starting a new business. Surprisingly to me, this has gone quite smoothly, with continued, steady growth and opportunities.
The biggest struggle is the amount of time it takes to build an account and then to stay relevant.
There is also the fact that I share a large part of my personal life and I am a very private person.
We’ve been impressed with Tuxedo Farmhouse, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My prior degree and work in Graphic Design provided a great foundation for a career change. Through years of experience working in the advertising/communications industry, and operating a freelance business for the majority of the time, I developed a great base to transition from. I have provided design, creative direction, production and project management to businesses in industries including non-profit, education, arts, technology, manufacturing and health care.
My skillset includes multi-tasking multiple projects, acting as a project manager when needed, high attention to detail, having a keen eye and clean visual aesthetic, good photographing/editing skills and the ability to provide a cohesive look throughout my client projects. All of these skills are necessary for operating an Instagram account, representing brand products and interior design projects.
Interiors has always been my first love, When I was desiring a career change three years ago, my education, past business experience and skillset made it fairly easy to transition into a new career.
After conducting a few months of research, I plunged into the world of becoming an Instagram Content Creator/Interior Designer.
I was fortunate to have recently designed and built a beautiful home that I use for creating content and showcasing my work.
I am very proud of how quickly I built my follower base, attracted brand collaborations and created a brand called “Tuxedo Farmhouse.”
My next goals include: starting a blog, writing a decor and/or cookbook and developing a line of products.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
It’s essential in life to be flexible and be willing to reinvent yourself when required.
Don’t worry so much; it changes nothing.
Embrace fear rather than letting it hold you back or stop you in your tracks.
Determine what you love and then find a way to make money doing it. It’s play then, not work.
