Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Stewart.
Hi Sophia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We love an origin story. For as long as I can remember I’ve been fascinated by music videos and movies. I saw it as an escape from reality. I always had a disposable camera on me growing up and captured life moments in real time. Then I would scrapbook for hours with the photos adding clips from fashion magazines to keep the memory forever (Side note: I still have these scrapbooks to this day.) Little did I know this was the start of my journey of capturing the world through my eyes.
Fast forward to today, little me would never have imagined that this is my life: an entrepreneur living her life on her own terms, who tells the stories of dope brands!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
How much time do you have? No in all seriousness, the struggles on my creative journey have brought me to this point now. Where I finally feel confident about what I create. I have been someone who has struggled with imposter syndrome and often looked to others to validate the work I do. Without their validation I thought I wasn’t creative or enough.
I am in this place now where someone else’s opinion doesn’t equate to my value. I am betting on myself as I move into this next chapter of my life. This feels like a pretty damn good place to be right now. We’ll see, maybe I’ll write a book one day.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
A loaded question, one that I can never seem to answer easily. I have an arsenal of skills and I’ve found myself to be a creative unicorn. That has allowed me to work in the areas of creative strategy, fashion styling, photoshoot creative direction, event production, influencer marketing, social media and content creation.
My main focus these days is content creation and social media. I specialize in telling a brand’s story that helps them tap in with their customers on a real level. I’ve worked behind the lens with Moxy Hotels, Houston White, The Minneapolis Vintage Market, Step Chld and STUDIIYO23 (to name just a few.) I also love stepping in front of the camera from time to time. The experience of being on both sides has really helped expand my perspective as a creative.
What sets me apart aka my superpower is my ability to connect with people and make them feel comfortable when I am shooting with them. I always see shots in my head everywhere I look. The creative eye for the perf shot is kind of a sickness but truly a blessing.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
The first time I saw The Little Mermaid in the theater. From that moment I knew I was a dreamer and someone who saw the world differently, just like Ariel.
