Today we’d like to introduce you to Sushila Anderson
Hi Sushila, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Sushila Anderson has an Associates degree in Graphic Design from Hennepin Technical College and a Bachelors of Elective Studies from St. Cloud State University. She is an 8 time, award winning glass artist and owner of Dynamic Glass Design. She has been working in glass for over 15 years. She started working in glass in 2008 with small fused glass jewelry. She has worked her way up into mosaics, large stained glass commissions, displaying artwork in art galleries from Duluth, Minnesota down to Red Wing, Minnesota.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Her first big challenge was creating a portfolio of artwork to stores and galleries. The cost of supplies was challenging to pay for which also hindered the amount of work to create for a portfolio. Finding new clients was also a challenge while networking and finding her voice in the sea of non-artistic professions.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Her most successful achievements came in 2023 with 5 awards. She was awarded “Maple Grove Arts Center Award,” and “Minnesota Figure Study Collaborative Award,” for the glass on glass “Chris Cornell,” and 4th place for “Tulip” style Tiffany Lamp both at the Minnesota State Fair. Her stained glass guitar “The Crow and the Butterfly,” at Frame Works in St. Paul, MN. She was awarded the Second Place People’s Choice Award and Minnesota Artist Association Members Juried Exhibit Fall 2023 Honorable Mention.
Her continued success overflowed into 2024. She won the Minnesota Artists Association Open Juried Exhibition Spring 2024 “Award of Excellence” for stained glass “Spring Flowers.” In the Minnesota State Fair she won second place for “The Crow and the Butterfly,” first place for the Potek Glass award and first place for stained glass “Alice in Wonderland.” She was selected for the “Member Artist Spotlight” at Hopkins Center for the Arts (2024), “Community Hallway” for White Bear Center for the Arts (2025), the front gallery in Hanifl Performing Arts Center (2025) and was awarded a solo show at Paradise Center for the Arts for Spring 2025.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
She is vey goal oriented in completing projects, she loves to travel with family and fiends to see artwork around the United States, and she loves going to concerts seeing her favorite bands like Green Day, Shinedown, and the bleated Chris Cornell.
