Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiana Ward.
Hi Tiana, I’m so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story? How did you get to where you are today?
I started my journey as a registered nurse six years ago. After graduating from nursing school in December 2017, I worked in a Medical-Surgical unit at Mayo Clinic Health System. After three+ years of experience, I decided to try something new, travel nursing! I spent six months in Bend, Oregon, and an additional six months in Seattle, Washington. I floated from unit to unit and helped where they needed me most. I immensely enjoyed that experience; however, it was time to head back home to Minnesota to be with my family. At this point, I was eager to try something new with my nursing career. I had been interested in aesthetic nursing for some time, so I decided to give it a try! I was fortunate enough to find a job at a local med spa, where I spent the next year and a half. During that time, I was able to gain a lot of experience and knowledge about this amazing industry. I became very passionate about injectables, skincare, and helping people feel confident. This past August, I gave birth to my firstborn baby, Suede Daniel. While on maternity leave, I took a massive leap of faith and opened my own med spa, Suede Aesthetics! I had so many positive ideas about how I wanted my practice to be, how I wanted my clients to feel, and, of course, who doesn’t want to be their own boss?
Has it been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I will admit it was a bit challenging opening my own business with a 6-week-old baby on my lap, but with lots of help and support from my husband, I was able to make this dream a reality! On October 30th of this past year, I announced that Suede Aesthetics would be opening soon. It was really happening! I remember feeling so much excitement and fear after posting the little secret I had been working so hard on. I decided to name my practice after my son for a couple different reasons. Reason number one is simple: I did all of this for him! Becoming a parent makes you realize what you want in life, and he gave me all the courage to do so. Secondly, suede is considered a soft and smooth material with a natural sheen, which is my goal with your skin. I’m here to help you love the skin you have and to restore it to that radiant, smooth, and natural look you remember! On November 13th, I opened my doors and have been enjoying every minute of it! It can be a little challenging to figure out how to advertise, fill the schedule with clients, and get your name out there. However, I have been networking and collaborating with other businesses since opening, which has been a lot of fun! It has given me the opportunity to learn and grow in this industry. I love being able to support other businesses while growing my own. Community over competition is so important!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I offer wrinkle-relaxing treatments (Botox/Dysport/Jeuveau), dermal fillers, collagen stimulators (Sculptra), chemical peels, and medical-grade skincare. Wrinkle-relaxing treatments such as Botox/Dysport/Jeuveau can help improve moderate to severe wrinkles and frown lines, correct gummy smiles, and improve the symptoms of TMJ. Dermal fillers consist of a hyaluronic acid gel that replaces volume where it has been lost, or it can add volume and hydration in desired areas, such as the lips.
Collagen stimulators, such as Sculptra, act as fertilizers to promote our body’s collagen stimulation and elastin production. This is commonly injected into the temples and midface and is great for preventing the signs of aging. Chemical peels brighten and even the skin tone and texture, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, reduce pore size, lift dark spots and sun damage, and promote skin elasticity. I also really enjoy helping clients get started on medical-grade skincare regimens tailored to their unique skin, ensuring that they are getting the best benefit from their day-to-day routine. At the end of the day, what we are doing at home is the most important!
I absolutely love all of the services I offer, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be lip filler. I love enhancing a beautiful and natural lip by adding a little volume and hydration while sharpening its borders. I feel as though aesthetic procedures have come a long way over the years, and I enjoy continuously learning new techniques and hope to continue adding new services as I grow. My goal is to leave your injectables undetectable! I specialize in giving subtle and natural-looking results. Everyone deserves to look in the mirror and feel confident.
