Meet Wes Pedersen of Pedersen Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wes Pedersen.

Hi Wes, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Michigan to two parents who were born-and-raised in the Twin Cities, so Minnesota was always like my second home. I moved all over the midwest throughout my childhood, which is when I picked up my first camera and found my passion for photography. I started out on an old 35mm film Nikon N2000 at 12 years old until I could save up enough money to buy my own digital camera.

I made my move to Minneapolis in 2014 when I started school at the University of Minnesota, studying design and architecture. Since graduating, I have continued to search for new and better ways to combine photography and architecture to allow the design of the built world around us to tell a story, to give us new perspectives and information.

In the middle of all of this I married the love of my life, Kristin Pedersen, in 2019, and just this past November we welcomed out first son into the world, Emory.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There are inevitable challenges of life that we’re all going to have to deal with eventually, so I really try my hardest to not get too hung up on them. I’ve recently dealt with the loss of some very close family members, including my father, Stephen Pedersen. It takes a lot to fully understand and accept death as a part of life, and I’m still working on getting to that point. But on the flip side, my wife and I just welcomed our first child into the world last November (which is also a challenge of life, just in a different, more positive way)! I am a big believer in karma and getting back what you give, so I think the universe usually has a way to balance itself out.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Pedersen Photography?
I work as a freelance photographer specializing in architectural and landscape design photography. I provide everything from interior and exterior photos, to aerial photography and videography for real-estate and construction work, and much more. I am Part 107 certified with the FAA for commercial drone work (along with NIMS certifications to help emergency response efforts with drones), as well as OSHA 10 certified to help provide safer construction progression photography to my clients.

I have a deep passion for photography, architecture, and design; I believe the built world around us has a story to tell and information to gain from it. Whether it’s a detailed aerial map of your property, progress tracking photos and videos for your construction project, high-quality furnished photos of your home when it’s complete, there are a lot of different ways we can view our environment and gain a deeper connection to it through photography and videography.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
There are plenty of ways to phrase it, and I’ve heard plenty throughout my childhood, but I think Ted Lasso says it best: Be a goldfish!
