Meet Zach Wiesen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Wiesen.

Zach, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and moved to the Twin Cities in 2015 when I was 18 years old to attend the University of St Thomas. After obtaining my degree in Exercise Science, I decided to further my education and pursue a Master’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Minnesota. During the first year of my Master’s, I became a certified strength and conditioning specialist as well as a personal trainer. I began personal training in order to sustain myself throughout the school. The passion that grew in me for personal training led me to collaborate with an amazing group of like-minded individuals. With this supportive group came an opportunity to open our own gym.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Though amazing, this opportunity to start a business came with many challenges. When you start a business at such a young age, not only do you have less opportunity for funding assistance which makes for extremely stressful and sometimes scary times, but you have to watch your peers go out and have fun as you and your team are working 16 hour days (and will most likely be for the next few years). Throughout the process of starting a business, I lost any personal relaxation time and many relationships. It felt as if I had hit a fast-forward button on my life. However, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat knowing these struggles are necessary for the process of achieving a dream as big as this one.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a personal trainer, I specialize in guiding clients to whatever physical goals they may have! Whether they want to burn fat, gain muscle, or simply learn lifting mechanics, I make it happen and love every second of it! As a trainer in Minneapolis, I’m known for my knowledge of the science behind working out, and using that knowledge to help clients achieve results. My goal as a trainer is to install internal motivation and guide a person toward being the best version of themselves.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is swimming! I swam competitively for 17 years at the national and collegiate levels. Swimming was always an activity that both grounded me emotionally, and taught me numerous life lessons throughout my childhood and into my adulthood.
