Hi A T R I E L, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi, my name is Atriel Durio. I go by the stage name A T R I E L. On social media I am @totallyatriel and I am an up and coming artist from Brunswick GA. I am most known for my songs Mom (Black Beatles Remix) & Cause I Am. Those are my two biggest songs. As Cause I Am is number one on Spotify and Mom is number two. I am very honored and appreciative to have anyone listen to my music. I’m no big name like Taylor Swift. I am a huge Swiftie by the way. I think she is one of the best lyricists of all time with the best marketing of all time. I also am borderline obsessed with Wicked & The Wizard Of Oz. It is my happy place, Oz. I am so excited for Wicked: For Good on November 21st. Wicked has shaped the person I am so much as a lifelong Oz fan I can say the will have me more emotional than the first one. While I was just featured an episode of You Know Me – A Golden Isles Podcast in August, and I have been performing at Hootenanny’s At The Yard consistently every Thursday that I can, I took to social media in June to say that I would be leaving for an indefinite period to focus on mental health and while that is mostly true I also have other things going on in my life that need my attention. Leaving social media while it was not something I wanted to do it had to be done. I have a child on the way, due November 18th. I also have been taking this time to focus on making music the way I fell in love with. I have been exploring how to better me and my music and find new sounds and some of what I have been working on I feel is worth the wait and worth the time that I am spending on it but my first and main priority is my daughter. Being a father is something that is new and exciting for me but also takes a lot of time and special consideration. I do want to explore new realms of music and share them eventually with you all but until then I am just feeling everything out and changing some of the things I have been used to. I started making music at such a young age and i dont think I always put out the best work or tried as hard as I could have and that’s something I want to improve upon. While you probably won’t be getting music from me for a while you can listen to everything else in my discography. I have a lot of albums and experimental projects. In my hours of music maybe you will find something you like, if not that’s fine, I’m not for everyone. I do know that I will continue to pursue music and my other passions until the day I die.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Struggle is really the topic of most of my music. I have lived nothing if not a life full of turmoil and trauma but also very genuine and happy moments. Life is a struggle for me everyday to be honest with you all but I will not give up. I continue to push through everything that comes my way and especially now that I have a daughter in no way shape or form am I ever giving up because she needs me to be the best I can be and that is exactly what im gonna do.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
While I am mostly known for my music and my presence in people’s lives. I am most proud of being able to have a daughter that I can protect and teach and being able to have that purpose of being a father makes me proud and I am sure will make me prouder. What sets me apart from others again is my will to not give up. I have been through so many painful and unbearable experiences and yet im still here.
