Rising Stars: Meet Adam Welz of Plymouth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Welz.

Hi Adam, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve spent more than two decades in the wedding world, starting out as a DJ, which showed me early on how much atmosphere shapes an event. Along the way I explored different creative roles that taught me how people connect with a space and how powerful great design can be. I’ve always been a hands-on, visual person, and I love building things that make people feel something. Eventually I found myself drawn to lighting and the way it can completely transform a room. That passion became Phos — a place where I can blend creativity, innovation, and craftsmanship to help people experience their most important moments in a meaningful way.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. In the wedding world, you get one chance to get everything right, and that pressure can be intense. Early on, it meant long hours, sleepless nights, and doing whatever it took to make sure every detail was perfect. As Phos grew, the challenge shifted to finding balance — scaling the business without losing the craftsmanship and care that built our reputation. I had to learn how to trust others, build the right team, and put systems in place so we could deliver consistently at a high level. It took time, and plenty of trial and error, but those struggles shaped the company into what it is today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At Phos, we specialize in lighting and event atmospheres that completely transform a space. We take a very intentional approach, mixing design, mood, and technical precision to create environments that feel immersive and unforgettable. Whether it’s a wedding, a private event, or a large celebration, our goal is always the same: to make the space feel personal, emotional, and elevated.
I’m most proud of the level of customization we bring to every project. Nothing we do is cookie cutter. We design everything around the client’s vision, the venue, and the feeling they want people to experience. What sets us apart is our ability to blend creativity with reliability. We push creative boundaries, but we also show up prepared, organized, and committed to getting every detail right.
In the end, it’s about crafting moments that people will remember for a lifetime and doing it with a level of care and creativity that feels distinctly Phos.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something that surprises a lot of people is how hands-on I still am. Even after all these years, I genuinely enjoy being on site, climbing ladders, testing angles, and fine-tuning the details. People often assume that once the business grows, you step back from the creative side, but for me, that part is still the most fulfilling. I think it keeps the work authentic. I never want to lose touch with the craft itself, and I think clients can feel that in the final result.
