Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Oltmanns.
Hi Angela, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As long as I can remember, I enjoy creating simple joys in my daily life.
Let’s face it, life is challenging. Many stressful things come up – whether we choose it or not. It’s lovely when we can get a break and are able to go on a nice vacation but what happens in our daily ordinary moments of life? Can we have joy then too?
I created Simple Daily Joy, my online gift shop, to offer products that help us cultivate simple joy in our daily living.
My shop specializes in print-on-demand spiral notebooks, mugs and stickers. This means that a product is produced by a professional printer only when an order is placed. It is my way of being an eco-friendly shop!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I had no knowledge on how to start an online gift shop. I knew I wanted to reach people who enjoy my vibe and products. I was very excited about the idea of having an online gift shop because that meant my work is not restricted to a particular locale or community. I can potentially reach the world and share things I love.
But how do I let them know about my shop? I had to learn many technical aspects of the business. For instance, it is easy to set up a personal Instagram or Pinterest account. It is another to learn how to set up Instagram and Pinterest shops to reach my potential customers. These were some of the things I struggled with and had to learn along the way myself.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a writer creative that opened my own online gift shop. I consider myself a midwife of sorts, birthing beautiful designs and products into the world through the inspiration and help of other equally talented and dedicated people.
When you buy something from my shop, you are saying “yes” to many creatives whose work might be otherwise go unnoticed by the world. I enjoy using this shop, this platform to share and highlight the talents of others.
I am a writer and life coach primarily. (Here’s my manifesto of sorts on Medium: https://medium.com/@Angela_Oltmanns) I hope you enjoy reading it!
What are your plans for the future?
At www.simpledailyjoystore.com, I’d love to gather up a community of people who have a buy-in toward the ethos of Simple Daily Joy. These people are compassionate, creative and find joy in contributing toward others. I’d like to facilitate zoom conversations to help each other identify, clarify and support what might be possible for ourselves individually as well as a community.
