Today we’d like to introduce you to Asha Keith
Hi Asha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started doing makeup on myself back in third grade! My mom would let me pick out a little piece of ELF makeup at the grocery store each time we went, but I just wasn’t allowed to wear it at school. I would come home and watch YouTube tutorials on eyeshadow, recreate something, and post a picture on Facebook! After highschool, I started doing makeup on my friends for prom and graduation, nothing too serious. As I transitioned out of highschool I made a side job out of this! I started taking more clients for prom, and then grew to bridal makeup! This was around the time I was 19 years old, and I will be 25 years old next month!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This road was not easy! It took such a long time to build a name up for myself and getting others to remember my name for a recommendation to others or their friends! I started doing makeup videos on Instagram and ended up with a huge following from that! I think that ended up helping me get more clientele and followers to share my name and my creations! I believe social media is a huge help to us today with those aspects.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I actually decided to go to school for dental assisting after I graduated high school. I really wanted to be apart of the healthcare world and be able to help people daily! I loved makeup so much I still wanted to be able to do it on the side, and I knew with the dental field, you don’t really work weekends! I have my degree in dental assisting but I work in oral surgery, I have for the past two and a half years and love it! I specialize in insurance/treatment plan coordinating! That is my Monday through Friday and makeup is for my Saturdays and Sundays!
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
So many things to be happy about in life! I wake up happy and healthy with a wonderful apartment and a pure bread Great Dane of my own! My family makes me so happy. I’m so loved and forever blessed with them. My job makes me happy. I’ve met my best friends there that I get to see everyday, nothing is better than that! All my clients make me happy. They have trust in me on the biggest days of their lives, and I get to be apart of that special day and there’s nothing that makes me happier!
