Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Mari.
Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started braiding hair at around age 5, on my Barbie Dolls’ head, eventually doing my younger brother’s hair. By middle school, I braided all my friends’ hair and my own through high school, where I started making some money from neighborhood clients. I took Cosmetology courses in high school as well, then decided to get a degree in Business to help create a plan for the future. Trippy Stylez was born in May 2016 in Minneapolis, MN where it took off and everyone knew about it. I’ve done Fashion Week MN twice and also do hair for local Musicians and Artists. Trippy Stylez plans on being internationally known. I took on LA, Miami in 2020-2021, during the pandemic, and came home to redirect my vision. Trippy Stylez World is on the rise.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth ride but it’s been one that challenges me and how much I can do. I have been grateful to have a loyal clientele who support Trippy Stylez and open their spaces to it. I have had to hustle a lot more since 2021, and sometimes I want to give up. I know hair is a true passion for me but I always want to do better.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Aside from Trippy Stylez, I also do freelance Camera work for companies that come to Minneapolis, as well as assisting in the production of Events happening in the Twin Cities. I have more plans of my own coming in 2023!
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was very self-aware. I knew what I liked, especially about fashion and personal appearance. I spoke up and was a high achiever in school. I was very ambitious and took risks.
