Today we’d like to introduce you to Ayden Jenson.
Hi Ayden, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I was about 12. I was in my backyard and randomly had the idea to pick up my mom’s camera and start recording myself making a fire. I quickly developed a passion for videography at this moment. I saved up all of my money from my first job and bought my first mirrorless camera in 9th grade. I was ecstatic. I wasn’t sure what exactly I wanted to do with my camera but I knew I wanted to try and make my money back on the camera. Eventually, I began shooting music videos and promotional videos for small businesses in the area. I continued making videos throughout the rest of my high school years and started taking myself more seriously after graduation. I slowly began buying more equipment I felt was necessary for myself and also expanded my services – getting into photography at a more professional level. Earlier this year, I started AydenJensonMedia – My personal photography and videography brand shooting anything from senior portraits to weddings.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Working to become self-employed is never easy for anyone, regardless of the field you work in, and it certainly hasn’t been easy for me either. Deciding whether or not college was for me was a very hard decision to make, but I ended up dropping out shortly after the end of my freshman year to pursue my dream without having to worry about school. I had originally planned on majoring in business management and it did not feel like the right fit for me.
The photo/video field also has a lot of career paths and it was (and still sometimes is) hard to decide what you want to want to shoot. Originally I planned on becoming a music video director, but as time went on I realized that was not really for me in the long term. Today, I work in a wide range of spaces, shooting just about anything and everything that clients reach out to me for.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a photographer and videographer working with a wide range of clients. The past year I have shot for so many different people. Some interesting examples are Call of Duty tournaments, weddings, powerlifting competitions, and dance competitions. I also have done a lot of portrait work for various clients.
I shoot with a Fujifilm which is not exactly the most commonly used camera brand, but I love it because I feel as though it created a look in both my photos and videos that sets me apart from most other photographers. Every camera has a special “look” to its photos and I have really fallen in love with the fuji look.
I’m always proud when I have a good shoot with a new client. Every shoot is different and it’s daunting to work with new people because I know I need to prove my worth. Delivering quality work to a new client is always something I will be proud of.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t really think luck has paid too much of a role in my business as of yet. It’s extremely important to have good connections in this line of work because word of mouth is easily the biggest source of new clients. I have always made it a priority to really put myself out there and try to make as many connections as I possibly can.
