Rising Stars: Meet Baron Brooks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Baron Brooks.

Hi Baron, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
You know, if I had to choose one word to summarize my story, I would use the word “perseverance”. It’s been a crazy ride to get to where I am at today, and I am grateful for every experience I have had so far. Even though I was born into poverty, I always stayed positive and optimistic that things would get better. Throughout middle school and high school I played an array of sports. I also participated in school plays and did some modeling on the side. Once I hit college I really got more involved in music and eventually met a producer who had his own studio and started recording. I think I definitely got my love for performing and writing music from my parents. My dad was an amazing poet and mom amazing singer, so was fortunate to get the best of both worlds. Anyways, I created my first album in 2010 called “The Other Haf” and it was really a way of expressing who I was. Most people saw me as this happy go lucky, innocent man who never got in to trouble and never had any problems, and just loved everyone. Well, we all know that can’t be true right? So, I wrote this album to portray my life on all cylinders. I would say my album did well. People loved it! The only issue was I didn’t have the funds to really get my album going and so I slowly took a backseat. If there is one thing I regret it would be not putting more time and money towards the investment and promotion of the album. While the full album is not out in stores or online today, I recently got one of my singles out on majority of the digital platforms you use today like Instagram, TikTok, Itunes, Pandora, Spotify and many more. “This Is My Life” is the single out now and it talks about how no one should tell you how to live your life but you. I think the pandemic really put some perspective around family and friends. For me it really got me thinking to myself, “Why am I not doing what I love? Why am I spending all this time trying to please Corporate America when I am not 100% pleasing what matters most to me, which is my family, my friends, and my personal development. So with that said I recently decided to get back in the studio and record. I continue to do competitive dance and also planning on growing my experience in the acting and modeling world. Most importantly be there for my wife and four beautiful daughters. Whether I become star or not is not important to me. What’s important to me is that I am living my life to the fullest. I am giving all I can to my family, my friends, and my development. And lastly doing what I love to do which is entertain.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been easy but that’s what made me the person I am today. I grew up extremely poor as a kid living in Bellflower, California. Where I grew up wasn’t the best spot. I remember hearing gun shots or fireworks go off almost every night. I’ve experienced getting shot at as a kid and even seeing others get shot. I’ve witnessed gang initiations amongst many other things and unfortunately these things will stick with me for the rest of my life. On top of that my mom and dad divorced when I was 8 years old due to some complications with alcohol amongst other things. It wasn’t until I moved to Minnesota to live with my sister and my brother-in-law when things changed for the better. I can say today that all of those things I went through has made me a better man and a better person. It made me become a more well-rounded individual and extremely adaptable to my surroundings.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Growing up I was always a great athlete and played many different sports such as football, basketball, baseball, soccer, and golf. While I still think I can hang with the best of them recreationally, I have gravitated more towards making music, acting, dancing, and just entertaining. I love the arts and want to use my talents to be an inspiration and role model to others. My most recent enjoyment has been competitive dance. I have 4 daughters and they all love to dance. I am actually part of a competitive dad’s dance group at Summit Dance Shoppe in Plymouth, MN, and I can say that dance is definitely one of the highlights for me every year. Being able to share that passion for dance with my kids is an incredible feeling.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Never give up on your dreams and never give up doing what you love because what you love is going to keep you happy, and if your happy you’ll spread the love.
