Today we’d like to introduce you to Bedo Rodriguez.
Bedo, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started pottery 20 years ago. I took it as an elective in college. I found pottery to be both fun and challenging. Even though I didn’t need the credits for my major, I took ceramics repeatedly. Before I left the community college I was attending to go to the University of Minnesota, I had taken ceramics 6 times.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Before starting my Aveli pottery I had quite a few years of teaching at other studios. Other than a few minor challenges here and there it’s been mostly a smooth process.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My focus is wheel thrown pottery. Everything I make would fall under the utilitarian category. I am most proud of my ability to explain pottery to others. I give credit to all my teachers I had when I was just starting out. They were able to explain in a way that was easy to understand. Now I’m just telling new potters what I was told many years ago.

The people in Rochester are so nice! I think I speak for everyone in Rochester when I say we have way too many construction projects going on.
