Today we’d like to introduce you to Breanna Rhodes.
Hi Breanna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started making art seriously about four years ago. I’ve always enjoyed doing art and it’s been very helpful for my mental health. I had a wild upbringing that pivoted on poverty. I’ve been a caregiver for my disabled mom since I was 17.
Growing up in a small town, my art wasn’t lifted. College was the first time it was brought to my attention that I might have a career in art. I just graduated this spring with my BFA in studio arts with minors in art history and psychology.
I have plans to apply to graduate school to become a professor. I recently just started my small business Brea Rhodes Art LLC. I’m currently doing art fairs and selling my prints and stickers.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been hard because I’ve had to work full-time during school to care for my mom.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do painting and printmaking. I enjoy the juxtaposition between current media like memes and traditional mediums like painting and printmaking. I’m most known for my cat paintings. Cats have always been a special interest of mine.
I love animals. I enjoy being able to capture their personality in the pieces. Growing up, I didn’t have a ton but I had my little homie (my cat). I think my bright colorful pallet and style help set me aside from other artists.
