Rising Stars: Meet Brent Pulskamp of Breckenridge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brent Pulskamp. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Brent Pulskamp

Valley Fab and Repair Inc. is located in Breckenridge, MN, owned by Brent and Jessie. We are located in an agricultural community; we never know what will “walk through our door.” We have been offering a variety of sales and services to companies all across the United States and our local community since 2009. Valley Fab and Repair Inc. specializes in truck and trailer modifications. We work with our customers to stretch or shorten truck frames for their needs. Several stretch or shorten jobs also include alterations to driveshafts, fuel tanks, tires, fenders, hoists, axles, etc.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been many struggles! When you own a small business, you step into many different shoes daily. You start your day by reviewing invoices and bills, ordering parts, and dealing with employees and customers; then, you try to work on your project until the next customer arrives. The biggest struggle for us has been finding skilled laborers. When working in a shop like Valley Fab and Repair, you can’t just specialize in being a welder or a mechanic. You must be well-rounded to help all the customers who walk through the door for any project, big or small. Running a family-owned business is a huge commitment and requires several long hours away from family. Brent runs the shop during the day with the employees while Jessie works her full-time job. On nights and weekends, you will find Jessie or even our three girls at the shop helping Brent or working in the office.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Valley Fab completes various welding, machining, and mechanical tasks. We work small jobs for our local customers, welding on lawnmowers, snow blowers, utility trailers, and much more. We make custom-built U-bolts and new drivelines to customers’ specifications and repair damaged drivelines on-site. Valley Fab supplies many local customers and businesses with new metal for them to fix and build their projects. We perform trailer modifications, including replacing broken cross members, installing new floors, building custom end gates, etc. When stretching a truck, we work closely with each customer to meet their specifications. These projects include 3rd axle installation, change of fuel tanks, storage compartments, and more. Each customer has their preferences for what they want to be completed, making every stretch job different and unique.

What makes you happy?
The customer is satisfied. Valley Fab and Repair has custom-made mud flaps, and several of our out-of-town customers want these installed on their trucks. When you have a satisfied customer, they will tell a few people and always have our contact information. Other people can see for themselves just by driving by on the interstate or parking lot and free advertising for us all around the United States. Valley Fab has stretched trucks for people in 19 states, and the list continues to grow yearly.
