Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Carter.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started with a desire to create something of my own and build a life around my creativity. I was born in Pomona, California, but I was raised in Minnesota, and over the years I discovered that entrepreneurship gave me a way to turn my ideas into something real.
Ya’Hyness started as a creative business and gradually evolved as I continued finding new ways to bring my ideas to life. I began with products, customized gifts, party favors and pop-up events eventually grew into a much bigger vision. I started getting involved in event planning and creating experiences where people could come together, have fun and support local businesses.
I realized that I didn’t just enjoy creating products—I loved creating experiences.
That pushed me to expand Ya’Hyness into events, including pop-up events, community festivals, mobile movie experiences, photo booths and larger themed events. I wanted my events to feel different from the typical events people were used to attending. I wanted people to walk away with memories, not just a few hours of entertainment.
Over time, Ya’Hyness became more than a business to me. It became a platform for bringing people together, creating opportunities for vendors and small businesses, and giving the community something to look forward to.
There have definitely been challenges along the way. Building a business from the ground up means figuring things out as you go, learning from mistakes, investing your own time and resources, and sometimes continuing even when you don’t have all the support you hoped for. But every challenge has helped me become more confident as an entrepreneur and pushed me to think bigger.
Today, I’m continuing to grow Ya’Hyness by creating unique events and experiences for different audiences—from community festivals and family events to adult-themed experiences and large-scale productions.
This year was the first Juneteenth Festival we teamed up with One Stop shop seeing the community come together was so Amazing Events like that is why I will continue to do this.
When I look back at where I started, I’m proud that I didn’t wait for someone else to give me an opportunity. I created my own.
And I’m still just getting started.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced has been building a business while learning everything along the way. There wasn’t a roadmap or a large team behind me telling me what to do. I had to figure out marketing, event planning, finances, networking, sponsorships, vendors, contracts and everything in between through experience.
Another challenge has been getting people to believe in the vision before they could see the finished product. When you have a big idea, people don’t always understand it in the beginning. I’ve had moments where I questioned whether I was doing too much or whether my ideas were going to work. I’ve also experienced events that didn’t go exactly as planned, financial setbacks, lack of sponsorship support and times when I felt like I was carrying everything on my own.
But those challenges taught me something important: I can’t let a difficult season convince me that my vision isn’t worth pursuing.
I’ve learned to be more strategic, to plan further ahead, to build relationships, to ask for help when I need it and, most importantly, to give myself permission to change direction when something isn’t working.
Entrepreneurship has taught me that success isn’t always about having everything figured out. Sometimes success is simply having the courage to keep going, learn from what didn’t work and come back with a better plan.
Every challenge I’ve faced has made me a stronger businesswoman. I’m still learning, but I’m no longer afraid of the challenges. I see them as part of the process that is preparing me for where I’m trying to go.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Ya’Hyness is a creative event and entertainment brand focused on creating unique experiences that bring people together. What started as a small business has grown into a platform where I’m able to combine my creativity, love for entertainment, entrepreneurship and passion for my community.
I specialize in creating and producing events that are different, memorable and intentional. That includes community festivals, adult experiences, themed events, pop-up markets, mobile entertainment, photo booth experiences and events that give local vendors and small businesses an opportunity to connect with new customers.
One thing I’m becoming known for is taking an idea that may start as just a thought and turning it into an actual experience. I love coming up with themes, creating the atmosphere, finding vendors, building partnerships and figuring out all the little details that make people say, “That was different. I’ve never been to an event like that before.”
I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve been able to create opportunities not only for myself, but for other entrepreneurs, vendors, creatives and community members. When I put on an event, I want everyone involved to have an opportunity to benefit from it. I love seeing a small business make sales, a new vendor get exposure, families enjoy themselves, or someone discover a business they may have never known about.
What sets me apart is that I’m not afraid to think outside the box. I don’t want Ya’Hyness to be known for doing what everyone else is doing. I want people to see the name and immediately associate it with creativity, experiences and something different.
I also believe in evolving. I’m constantly coming up with new concepts and finding ways to improve. I’m not interested in building something that stays the same forever. I want Ya’Hyness to continue growing into a brand that people recognize, trust and get excited about.
Ultimately, I’m proud that I created something from my own ideas and determination. Ya’Hyness represents my ability to dream something up, figure out how to make it happen and bring other people along with me.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My Advice is to Network!
I’ve learned so much this year from Networking with others sharing ideas information and recourses.
There’s enough space and opportunity for Everyone.
