Today we’d like to introduce you to Christy Macho.
Hi Christy , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
A Bushel & A Peck began 11 years ago as a small, in-home boutique born from a passion for creativity and community. While running a home daycare, I started refinishing furniture on the side, looking for a new creative outlet. What began as a personal project quickly grew when I invited a few talented friends to join me in hosting a once-a-month boutique in my home. Within just five months, our group had expanded to 25 artists and creators, making it clear that we needed a permanent space to continue growing.
Since opening our brick-and-mortar location, A Bushel & A Peck has evolved into a carefully curated boutique offering women’s clothing, accessories, candles, home goods, and unique gifts. Over the years, we have learned, adapted, and grown, always striving to provide a warm and welcoming shopping experience. What started as a side passion has blossomed into a thriving business built on creativity, collaboration, and a love for beautiful things.
More than just a boutique, A Bushel & A Peck is a place where creativity meets community. We truly love our customers and feel so blessed to have built lasting connections with those who support us. It’s the people—both our customers, staff and our creators—who make this journey so special.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Running a boutique like A Bushel & A Peck has been an incredible journey, but it hasn’t come without its struggles. Retail is always changing—what people want, what styles are trending, and what customers are willing to spend their money on. Staying ahead of these shifts requires constant adaptation, creativity, and a willingness to evolve.
There have been times of uncertainty, where we’ve had to navigate slow seasons, supply chain challenges, and shifts in shopping habits. Owning a small business means wearing many hats—buyer, marketer, customer service, and more—all while trying to create a space that feels special and inviting.
Despite the challenges, we wouldn’t trade this journey for anything. Our love for our customers and community keeps us going, pushing us to continue learning, growing, and offering something truly meaningful. At the heart of it all, A Bushel & A Peck is more than just a store—it’s a labor of love, built on passion, resilience, and the incredible support of those who believe in what we do.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At A Bushel & A Peck, our focus is always on our customers—understanding their needs, their style, and what makes them feel their best. We specialize in creating meaningful connections with those who walk through our doors, making sure they feel seen, heard, and excited about their shopping experience.
What sets us apart is our personal touch. Shopping here isn’t just about finding something to wear—it’s about discovering pieces that fit your lifestyle and personality. We believe in making every visit feel special, whether it’s through personalized styling advice, a warm welcome, or a carefully arranged display that sparks inspiration.
For me, the most rewarding part of this journey is the buying and merchandising. I love selecting products that I know our customers will love and then bringing them to life in our store through thoughtful displays and styling. Creating a beautiful, inviting space filled with handpicked treasures is what makes this work so fulfilling.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Looking ahead, the retail industry is facing significant shifts. Shopping habits are evolving, and fewer people are taking the time to visit physical stores the way they used to. Online shopping, social media influence, and convenience-driven retail models are reshaping how people discover and purchase products.
To be honest, it’s a little scary. The way people shop is changing so quickly, and as a small business, we have to keep up. But one thing we’ve learned over the years is the power of adaptability. We’re committed to pivoting, finding new ways to connect with our customers, and making shopping with us an experience worth having.
Despite the challenges, we believe there will always be a place for small boutiques that offer something special—whether it’s a curated selection, personal service, or the feeling of community that comes with shopping local. Our goal is to keep evolving while staying true to what makes A Bushel & A Peck unique: connection, quality, and a love for what we do.
