Today we’d like to introduce you to Dee Bomb.
Hi Dee Bomb, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Dimitrius Stephens aka Dee Bomb, I’m a Hip Hop artist, Record Producer, DJ, & Entrepreneur from Minneapolis, MN. I’ve been rapping since I was 8 years old and I decided in middle school to make it my occupation as an adult. I spent my high school years recording demos until I graduated, which brought me to the Twin Cities Hip Hop scene once I put out my first mixtape in 2006.
Once I put out that mixtape, I used the money I made off of it to launch my company, Bangin Noize Entertainment, LLC. back in 2007 and began putting out mixtapes until 2012. In 2012, I started selling music starting off with “The Rehearsal EP” in 2012 which earned me a local record deal and opportunities to tour with artists such as Bone Thugs & Harmony, Obie Trice, A$AP Ferg, Redman, and many more leading up to my 2014 debut album, “Beautiful & Harsh Poetry”. I was able to earn a joint venture distribution deal for Bangin Noize Entertainment in 2015 which led to 4 national tours & the release of 3 other albums including my critically acclaimed, “The Progress Album” in 2020 which became his best selling and most streamed project of my career.
In 2017, I wanted to expand on my talent so I enrolled into Institute Production & Recording (IPR) for an Audio Production & Engineering degree, in my time there I was able to learn how to make beats as well as DJ for weddings through a DJ company in Minnesota. I began my productional debut on my third album, “Reality” in 2018, earning respect as a producer and DJ in the last 5 years.
After 10 years running Bangin Noize Entertainment, with experience with putting together successful tours promoting my sophomore album, “Words that touch Souls” in 2016, I opened a department with the label that caters to multi-genre events including school, toy, & food drives in 2019 as a way to support fellow musicians and contribute to my community on a positive level.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is nothing smooth about it, unfortunately. It takes hard work, dedication, imagination, sacrifice, math skills, communication and many more to make all this happen. I deal with the most struggles as an artist because we have people in the industry that will try to navigate your career with manipulation while the artist gets cheated out of their money only accept the ‘It will get you exposure” talk and leave it at that.
One of my challenges running the event department is trying to find artists that really want this as an occupation and most importantly promote the shows I put them on, I’m not a fan of my time and money being wasted when there are artists waiting to be noticed whatever it takes.
If I have any obstacles, it’s being able to be taken serious as an entrepreneur & Dj while being mainly known as an artist. I am happy to say I’m finally getting recognize as a boss, but people want you staying in the lane you came in the game on normally. It wasn’t easy but I had to spend my own money so I could pay myself so consistently that people have no choice but to notice what I’m doing. That’s exactly how Bangin Noize was able to be one of the only 2 entertainment companies recognized during Black Business Week in the Twin Cities in 2020.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As of 2022, I’m an award-winning regional rapper by the name of Dee Bomb repping Minneapolis, MN.
I’m a DJ under the same name catering mainly to weddings and cooperate events.
I’m a record producer & recording engineer that has produced as well as recorded songs that got placements on commercials and shot to the top of multiple internet music charts.
I’m the founder/CEO of Bangin Noize Entertainment, a digital record label that caters to releasing music and coordinating local events, regional tours, and now streaming online events.
My next goal is to go into fashion, I have a partner in the fashion world that is developing this clothing line with me that will come with some of the financial proceeds will go back into the community, be ready for that,
If I had to say anything I was most proud of in my career would releasing my debut album. That was my biggest dream and I made it happen while the hate was real. The average rapper will tell you they stand out because they’re real or whatever, I stand out because I refuse to let anyone in this industry tell me what I can’t do because I was able to make it where I can do for me what a manager or promoter would do for me to avoid the black balling, everything I’m doing now has been part of my vision since I was in middle school and I’m a few things away from getting everything I wanted in this game and it’s going to happen.
What does success mean to you?
It varies but as an artist, I feel you’re successful when you got at least 1 person supporting your music by streaming, buying the album, buying merch, coming to the shows, then it’s the start of you winning. That 1 person could’ve went with another artist but chose to rock with you so consider that the start of your success. You’re more successful when you don’t give up on your music despite what this industry comes with.
As a DJ, personally, my success with that is being able to keep people on the dancefloor having a good time most of the time if not all the time.
Entrepreneur success is a little different because that’s when numbers matter so long as you got people investing into your company, success will arrive and stay depending on how you play your cards.
Overall, success for me is being happy in life doing everything I wanted to do in my life, Even if I fail, I’m successful just by trying because most talk about it and I’m more of a doer.
