Rising Stars: Meet Donovan Corn of Minneapolis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donovan Corn

Hi Donovan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born in Chicago, IL. I was raised with Christian values and an African American standard of work ethic. I joined my first amateur wrestling team when I was six years old. It wasn’t always easy, I often struggled to take to the sport unlike my counterparts at the time. I did not truly fall in love with the sport until I moved to Chandler, AZ in the summer of 2016. I had just finished my freshman year in High School and my mother was transferring because of her job. While in AZ, my love for amateur wrestling grew with my success. 2x AIA State Placer, 3x Greco-Roman State Champion, and 2x Freestyle State Champion, I felt on top of the moon. I soon discover Luther College. In the small town of Decorah, IA, I learned more about my character and what kind of influence I wanted to leave the world. This is when I started looking into Professional Wrestling. I had been a fan since I started amateur wrestling but it wasn’t till I began competing in Iowa till I started gaining that thirst for more. Leaving Luther a 2x NCAA All-American gave me enough confidence to continue my journey. Now it’s up to me to make my dreams finally come true.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not, I moved to Minnesota without knowing a single individual. Fresh out of college I was living above my means. I began receiving coaching from former WWE superstar Ken Anderson in a hope to get something newer than Iowa. Through my experience training my coach began dealing with personal matters of his own. Leaving me and several of the wrestlers from Minnesota scene wanting more out of the Academy and out of our careers. Being trained by my own peers taught me alot about wrestling camaraderie and passing skills forward.

I don’t know if you know this but Minnesota Pro wrestling has been at a divide years before I stepped foot here. Working to manage the situation and work in other parts of the area have been a challenge but not for the lack of trying! My goal is to be known around the world. I’m just looking for great opportunities to show who I am not only as a Professional Wrestler but as a human being.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am currently a coach of Amateur wrestling for Osseo Senior High School. This allows me to keep a steady income while chasing y dreams. I have a lot of love in my heart for both sports, and being able to do both at such a young age has been magical. I could not imagine myself in this position as a 6 year old, but I’ve made it to a place where I’m both the student and the teacher.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Don’t put your eggs all in one basket:

-There are numerous outlets and locations for you to train and become successful don’t allow one bad incident define how you feel about you and the situation you’re in. I have been trying to build a brand and grow in a stew of animosity and empty favors. But if you’re like me and didn’t decide to do this on a whelm, if you aspire from more than what is being offered than I would take that opportunity else where.
