Rising Stars: Meet Elouise Suoja

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elouise Suoja.

Elouise Suoja

Hi Elouise, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Elouise Suoja, and I own 350° Bakery. I was first inspired to bake sweet treats the summer before my eighth-grade year of middle school. I found a waffle maker in my cupboard and my love for baking blossomed from there.

I hosted multiple bake sales at the bottom of my driveway, and that quickly turned to custom orders for birthday parties, grad parties, and weddings.

Fast forward to today, I just graduated from Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction with an Associate’s Degree in baking and pastries. I am excited to be back in the White Bear Lake area. I will be at my booth at the farmers market in WBL on Friday mornings and continue my business via my website with custom orders.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been relatively smooth so far?
I have a cottage food license that allows me to bake from my home. In the past I had to be mindful when taking on large orders. However, I am currently moving into a larger kitchen space and am excited to grow my business. I will be hiring my first employee once I get into my new space. That is very exciting to me.

Last year, I baked at the farmers market and that was a new experience for me as well. This is my second year at the market and I am also taking on new types of selling platforms and that has been a fun and new experience.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I started my business focused primarily on cupcakes. Creating a variety of flavors and decorating them is fun, however, over the past couple of years I have a newfound passion for decorating cakes. I love that every cake is created uniquely for my customers. It allows me to bring their vision to life.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Patience, time management, confidence, risk-taking, organization, stamina, and relationship building.

And of course, creativity and a love for sweet treats.
