Today we’d like to introduce you to Elsa Sanchez. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Elsa is the creator behind Mochuelo. She makes her owl pillows at her home in South Minneapolis. Since she was a child, she enjoyed doing arts & crafts. After a miscarriage several years ago, she needed to channel her energy outward and decided to learn how to use a sewing machine by herself. Her first project was an owl, and making it made her feel happy for the first time. She discovered her passion for sewing and fabrics. She loves the fabrics’ versatility and how they can change each owl’s style or give them a special touch of personality. She designs and creates every owl with much joy and all new materials. She’s sure these owls will brighten any space in your home!
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Since I work out of my home, I’ve had to adapt to spaces of different sizes. Setting up and taking down my workspace has been time-consuming. Thankfully, I have a dedicated space for my workshop and feel great about it. So far, the biggest challenge I’ve encountered is engaging in online sales. It has been difficult to reach the client because they need help seeing or touching the owls in person.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Mochuelo offers a variety of owl-shaped products to decorate, play, and cuddle with! We provide accent pillows and toys from brand-new fabrics to stimulate a child’s imagination. Patchwork and embroidery techniques are used for embellishment, and every owl has its personality and style. Clients often comment that they can see and feel the joy! Elsa creates all the owls from scratch in a happy family setting. Her husband draws the patterns after she gives the ideas; sometimes, the whole family goes on fabric shopping trips.
What makes you happy?
It makes me very happy to see people of any age or background smile when they see my owls. Anytime I sell in person and see their eyes light up, I know my products bring the joy I feel when creating them.
