Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Johnson.
Hi Emily, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a master’s prepared holistic nurse, RYT, Reiki master, somatic and energy healer. After a traumatic abdominal injury in 2009 that left my life as I knew it shattered and who and what I could typically do lost, it is there that I started my deep healing journey that led me to many healing practitioners through many different modalities to help my pain, loss of abilities and self, and try to rebuild a life. I found the most transformative modalities in helping me heal, grow, and rebuild myself were somatic and energy healing. It helped me to be held in a space where I could get back in touch with my body, which was scary to be in since my injury and connect to the patterns, conditioning, fears, feelings, and emotions that I was holding. It was the most transformative for me because I could let go of patterns and things I thought could never change in me. It helped me feel free, trusting in life, at peace, and embody who I knew I wanted to be and feel. Doing somatic work for my healing and then studying it myself to help others helped me put a language to many of the things I already did when working with clients. Since 2011, I have been studying and doing energy healing (reiki and Healing Touch), then studied yoga, meditation, holistic nursing, Thai bodywork, holistic coaching, neuroscience, biology, and most recently, somatic healing. I started my business, Awakened Mother, in 2022, where I integrate all my studies to help people transform themselves and their lives by processing old stuff in the body and then learning how to embody a new one. My work helps people connect deeper to themselves to connect to their innate inner compass, have more connected, loving, and authentic relationships, and live the life they want. I should also add that I have been a single mother since I was 5 months pregnant, and I’ve wanted to be the best mother possible and give my son the emotional support and all-around support I never got so he can truly thrive. He is a constant mirror to me and the healing I need, and doing somatic and energy healing allows me to show up for myself and me in the ways we need with presence, love, and joy.
Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not a smooth road. I had a traumatic injury to my abdomen that left me unable to walk very easily for almost a year and took away my ability to do many things I used to, like workout, run, ride a bike, and other activities I used to love to do. That was devastating but ultimately led me to my most incredible healing and spiritual journey home to myself and why I help others. I also grew up where my parents divorced when I was a young teen, and I had lots of trauma with that and stress that carried through my adult years. I realized many of my issues stemmed from childhood, and doing all these integrative therapies, especially somatic work, helped me to heal and work through depression and anxiety and live a life with more presence where I can live mainly from love and joy now. Being a single mother has been a great challenge, but it has brought me to the best version of myself because I want to be the best for him. Being a single mother has been challenging because the world isn’t set up for us. Jobs that accommodate having a child with the hours are hard to find, and childcare is expensive.
I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work is part of my life story and who I am. I believe in living a life that I love and doing work in which I love and am fully embodied. In the first question, I talked a lot about my work, but I am a holistic nurse and somatic & energy healer. I help people, mainly women, process their trauma, pain, and patterns to heal and embody the best version of themselves. I am most proud of my embodiment and presence. I have continually done the inner work to be present in the now and live in a more joyful, loving, and peaceful place. Because of this, I can show up for my son fully, allowing him to thrive and not be burdened by my stresses, hold space for others to heal, and be an example to others in my day-to-day life. I want to show people it’s possible to feel it all and feel alive in your life. My vast array of education, experiences, and wisdom sets me apart. I am good at it, and one of my gifts is gathering and taking in a ton of information and knowledge and bringing it to people in an effortless way to help them understand themselves and heal. I am also gifted in feeling people’s energy and seeing the energy dynamics between people and their relationships.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Trust in spirit and the universe that everything is always happening for us as it should be. When we can surrender to this, we suffer less because we understand that everything happening is giving us something, whether it’s a lesson, meaning, or a lesson to help us grow. And we don’t worry if we are doing anything wrong or if we will miss out on anything or need to do more.
