Today we’d like to introduce you to Frankie Torres.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Frankie Torres has been performing for over 17 years. She started her singing career with her decade-long attendance at the School of Rock, which allowed her opportunities such as 6 national tours, performing at locations such as Lakefront Music Festival, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and Lollapalooza. By the time Frankie became an adult, she was a seasoned musician and performer. Frankie consistently engages audiences with her own takes on the best rock classics. She shows off her wide vocal range through her bluesy lows and impressive high notes. Frankie began releasing original music in 2020 with her debut single “Grandpa’s Song”, describing her own family’s struggle with Alzheimer’s. Her mature and unique songwriting skills combined with her vocal talent create a musical force to be reckoned with. Her discography reflects her varied musical inspirations including rock, blues, soul, and even college a capella. In 2024, Frankie competed on NBC’s The Voice where her powerful rendition of Heart’s “Magic Man” earned her a coveted 4-chair turn. Meaning, all four coaches—Michael Buble, Gwen Stefani, Reba McEntire, and SnoopDogg—wanted her on their team, and in the end she got to work alongside Gwen Stefani, Reba McEntire, and Jennifer Hudson as a surprise mentor. After her time on The Voice, Frankie dove head-first into the Minneapolis music scene by opening for NurD and Ludacris on the main stage at the 2025 Taste of Minnesota. She has also become the official National Anthem singer for the MN Frost.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have had two major obstacles in my career – one personal and one professional. In 2022 my dad died after a year-long battle with ALS. It was the hardest thing I have ever been through, and it still deeply affects me to this day. It has also directly influenced my music career as it was one of the main reasons I auditioned for The Voice. I wanted to chase my dreams in honor of my dad. The second major obstacle I have dealt with is narrowing down who i am as a artist. I grew up obtaining a love for every genre of music, which I have always seen as a positive. However, i learned from being on The Voice how important it is to be marketable within only a few genres. For the past two years I have been honing my artistic voice, and building a unique image.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a rock and blues singer songwriter from Minnetonka, Minnesota. I have been performing rock music in the Twin Cities for 18 years, and ever since Covid lockdown have released original music. Getting a 4-chair turn on The Voice in 2024 was a huge highlight of my career as it opened many doors for me. As a young woman in the rock industry I can often be disregarded by the men who run the industry, but having NBC on my resume has acted as a sort of validation to my talent.
