Dog Threads™ is a family-owned business based in Minneapolis. We believe that humans and their dogs deserve the absolute best, which is why we create premium goods for you and your pup. We are proud to say a portion of all sales are donated to help less fortunate animals find their forever homes.
It started in the summer of 2014 when we were looking for a festive party shirt for our fur baby, Thomas, to wear to our annual 4th of July barbecue. We looked everywhere but just could not find an outfit that matched his human-like personality or that was made with the quality he deserved.
Scott had the ingenious idea to take matters into our own hands. With Gina’s background in apparel design, we bought some fabric, created a pattern and made a one-of-a-kind Tropical print button-down shirt for Thomas. We called it his BBQ Shirt — and he quickly became the spotlight of our annual party. Thomas loved getting dressed up, so we started making different shirts for every occasion, and soon enough his wardrobe needed a closet of his own.
Pups took notice — everywhere we went Thomas would get stopped for photos and people would ask where he got his threads. We whole-heartedly love delivering that same joy to our customers as we once had with Thomas, and now Jonesy, who we rescued in May of 2019. Even though Thomas has passed over the rainbow bridge, his legacy will live on through each pup that wears his threads, and in turn donates to an animal in need.
We strive to offer complete transparency into our manufacturing process and proudly create premium goods that are always ethically made. Dog Threads’ compliance program was accredited by the Fair Labor Association in 2020.
Every animal should have a warm and cozy place to sleep. Excess fabric from our production is used to create dog beds that are then donated to local animal shelters.
Our products are shipped in mailers that are made from 100% recycled contents and are fully Recyclable, Compostable and Biodegradable.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business is never an easy mountain to climb, or even start climbing. We’ve faced many obstacles over the years — from deciding when to take the business on full-time from a passion project, to manufacturing fails and missteps, to raising capital after Shark Tank, and of course all of the issues that the pandemic has caused to every business worldwide.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Designing apparel for pups and people that are not only premium quality, but on-trend. We all deserve to be thought of and considered during the design process, dogs included. We’ve focused on just that since the very beginning of Dog Threads.
