Rising Stars: Meet Hannah Slavik and Austin Wenger

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Slavik and Austin Wenger. They and their team shared their story with us below:

In 2019, Austin tried starting a podcast on his own but ultimately felt like he needed someone to bounce off of while talking about these dark topics. Both he and Hannah have been fans of dark history, true crime, and the paranormal for years; so it made sense that he’d ask Hannah if she wanted to join him on this project. They first sat down in 2020 to start working on the podcast and figuring out what they wanted it to be.

Slowly they got a logo made by tattoo artist Mitch Gogins, got the equipment they needed, and when Austin moved into his home in the Summer of 2022, they finally had a space to record. At the end of 2022, they started getting together once a week to work on research and eventually sat down and started recording. The first three episodes of The Bleeding Grave were released on March 20th, 2023.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It took us years to really start creating the podcast because we didn’t have much time, or the space to be able to record. As soon as we had both, the challenge was getting into the groove of putting this much energy into a hobby.

It can feel like another job due to the amount of time it takes, the emails that need to be sent, and the consistency that’s required. But at the same time, it’s so enjoyable that we don’t mind the work.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We feel like we’re able to create content that feeds your morbid curiosities but with a lighthearted tone.

We wanted it to feel conversational, our goal is to make it feel like you’re sitting with friends and talking about the things that interest us. We cover anything from dark history, true crime, paranormal, and supernatural, to just bizarre stories.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Hannah and Austin both enjoy listening to podcasts, which fueled their interest in making one. Some podcasts that inspired them are Mile Higher Podcast, And That’s Why We Drink, Lore, Sawbones, and Coast to Coast (both radio and podcast).

Both of them have also always loved documentaries of any sort. Other works like those of Edgar Allen Poe and Stephen King have piqued their interest in the dark and macabre.
