Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Hanson.
Hi Heather, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started the process of creating Timeless Notary during Covid. Working at a long term care facility at a time when the world shut down was a little crazy. During that time people couldn’t come into the facility to visit or anything much less be able to take care of paperwork needed for care. Prior to Covid there was a notary we could call to come in & perform services, once Covid came it stopped. When things started to open a bit, I noticed that the notary services we had prior to the shut down had not returned. That’s when I started looking into what needed to be done to become a notary, families still needed notary services for various things. Once I decided I could do it, I looked into what all kind of services a notary could do & offer, that opened everything up. Not only could I provide a mobile notary service for those without transportation, or couldn’t leave their homes, it was a service I could provide remotely thanks to Covid.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth ride. Just like with most small businesses, getting the word out about the business was a big obstacle. Learning how to run your business, what services to offer, setting up a website all take time & patience to get in order. Learning that things don’t happen overnight.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My career journey has been primarily in healthcare. I started out in healthcare admissions at Fairview hospital. From there I moved over to medical billing with Fairview. I’ve worked in other areas of healthcare billing over the years eventually ending up at the State of Minnesota. My part time job had been working at a long-term care facility in West St Paul. That facility has a transitional care unit, memory care & care suites. Here I’ve been able to work with people in different stages of life. Transitional care is for people getting out of the hospital but not quite ready to go home, Memory care is for people with Alzheimer’s and dementia, Care suites is for those that can still function on their own but can’t live alone for one reason or another. My jobs have always had a focus on serving people in one way or another. It is at my part time I realized the need for notary services. A family can be in need of a notary at any time due to an unforeseen circumstance. Most of the time when they realize they need it; a person is in transitional care or in the hospital and can’t leave. They realize they don’t have the proper paperwork in order for a POA, healthcare directive & all of these need to be notarized to be legal. In these situations, they need someone that can come to them. Notaries are not only needed in healthcare, but they are also needed in/by law firms, mortgage/title companies & can do apostilles. I’m known for volunteering to help people. Whether it is with something they need, covering for them at work, or getting something done. I don’t mind helping someone that needs it. I am most proud of being able to put a smile on peoples face during a stressful time, when they have had a bad day, or just frustrated trying to figure something out. What sets me apart from others not only are my services mobile & remote, but the compassion I have for people and what I do.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I would say it was Christmas when I was about 8 years old. Me & my cousin were walking around the Christmas tree counting gifts and all of a sudden we heard a boom outside my grandparents basement doors. My grandma looked at us & said what was that? She had us go look out the sliding glass doors, and there was a big bag of Christmas gifts sitting there. Then I saw big boot prints walking to the side of the house. I threw on my boots & coat to run outside to see if I could catch Santa, I saw the footprints & marks in the snow from a sleigh but I missed seeing Santa. Years later my dad told me my grandmother (his mother) made him do all of that, and the sleigh marks came from my metal & wood sled I had at my grandparents house.
