Today we’d like to introduce you to Janine Boso.
Hi Janine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started photography in college and have always fallen back on it when trying to figure out what career path I wanted to pursue. I started with landscapes and personal work, friends and family and grew into couples, seniors and weddings. I’m now transitioning into mostly just couples and brand work. I worked in the restaurant industry before going full-time in 2020 during the pandemic after losing my job working in a restaurant. Very thankful I was able to and keep as much business as I could with all the restrictions.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think it’s been equally as smooth as difficult in various stages of my business. The pandemic made it hard and scary to work for myself but by being laid off I was able to push myself into more education and business management to have the successful business I’m proud of today. Worth the stress and workload I took on over the years so I wouldn’t change a thing.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Minnesota wedding, senior and brand photographer. I’d say weddings are more so what I’m “known” for and how clients find me typically. I’ve been shooting weddings since 2017. I’m most proud of the growth I’ve been able to achieve and the client relationships I have created over the years. I’m close with so many clients that I can now call friends. I meet the best people through this job and capture their most memorable moments so it really doesn’t feel like work to me most days, I’m very lucky to do what I love.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe being kind, great at communication and helpful in any way you can to clients and those in the same industry is the key to success. My job doesn’t only involve taking photos but being a helpful friend along the way in planning your wedding or preparing for a photo session.
