Rising Stars: Meet Jennifer Adler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Adler.

Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I graduated High School at age of 17 and was on my own, out of the house, from that moment forward.   The only vision I was sure about at that time, was to follow in my Grandparents footsteps and own a successful business and then one day it hit me…I realized that my true inner passion was in the beauty industry.  It was clear to me that I could fulfill my inner passion of creativity through cosmetology and also fulfill my entrepreneurial mindset by eventually becoming an independent artist and salon owner.  Aveda Cosmetology School in Minneapolis was my only vision for school in which I graduated at the top of my class. They named me “The fastest foiler in the West”.   I was determined to be the best and become a successful entrepreneur like my Grandparents.  I started out shadowing the owner of a successful Salon in Wayzata, quickly grew to be one of the top stylists at another well known Salon & Spa, and went on to become an independent artist at another Salon.  At the age of 30, it was time to go ‘all-in’ and open my own successful Salon & Spa – with 33 employees.  I was considered the ‘Fastest growing Salon & Spa in the Midwest’ – my experience was humbling and rewarding to say the least.  Eventually, I moved myself and my business to the Twin Cities to fulfill some more dreams.  I worked independently at the World Headquarters of Intelligent Nutrients in Minneapolis with Horst Rechelbacher, Founder of Aveda and Intelligent Nutrients. Surrounding myself in his world full of forward movement, visions and creativity, was more than I could ask for.  Our IN Artistic team were his IN brand ambassadors, educators and editorial team.  It was invigorating, incredible, an honor and a blessing to be emerged in Horst’s world, having access to learn and grow personally and professionally, with him and other Global Leaders.  My knowledge expanded on product development, essential oils, climate change, hair color, hair cutting and much more.

My journey continued with Lash Extensions and after many years of research, I founded J.Adler Lashes in 2014 in which I provide a safe, effective and sustainable Lash Extension company offering a lash training program, lash services and a safe and effective product line designed specifically for classic lash extensions.

In 2014, I was chosen as one of Minnesota’s Top Stylist by the Minnesota Fashion Awards.

In January of this year, I received an award fromWarPaint International as their “WPI Artisan of the Year” for luxury and excellence in artistry, processes, client service and brand ambassadorship. With Warpaint, I provide luxury hair and make-up services for brides, grooms and bridal parties.

Today, I am thriving at a gorgeous Salon and Spa in Edina called District on 50th Salon + Spa.  I perform my beauty magic in a beautiful large suite in our serene Spa area filled with soothing & calming essential oils.  Working with creative, talented Artists within one luxurious space on 50th and France is just another way to expand my own creativity and knowledge in the beauty industry.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest hurdles I have faced in my career is when I moved my business from the northern suburbs to the twin cities. Establishing a new clientele in a new area is always a challenge for beauty industry professionals.

The other biggest hurdle I faced was when the covid pandemic started and our Governor forced me to close my rental salon for three months and I was still held liable and responsible for all of my business expenses.  Unfortunately, I opened my small boutique rental salon in St Louis Park called J.Adler Concepts right before covid hit.  After three months, the salon industry was mandated to operate at 25% and then 50% for over one year.  Service and product sales came to a dead stop and then after opening back up, sales were at an all time low for almost 2 years following.  I ended up closing that salon due to the financial roller coaster.  This is something I have never experienced in the 26 + years I have been a cosmetologist/business owner and even though the beauty industry is making a comeback and my business is growing again in Edina, the pandemic continues to create ongoing emotional and financial challenges.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I offer a large array of beauty services. I frequently get asked by my new clients ‘what I specialize in?’  The answer is always the same; I specialize in every service that I offer because, if I am not great at it…I just won’t offer it.

Currently, I offer: Classic and Hybrid (Classic +) Lash Extensions, Lash Lifts & Tint, Henna Brows, Brow Shaping,Tinting & Waxing, Dimensional or One Step Hair Color, Haircuts, Fusion Hair Extensions, Waxing, Hair Styling & Make-Up services in the salon. I also freelance some of my services for editorial shoots, commercials, weddings, senior photos and for any special occasion.

I feel that my experience with Horst Rechelbacher at the World Headquarters of Intelligent Nutrients gave me an opportunity to live my life healthier by using IN organic products for my skin and hair and it provided me the tools and knowledge to share with others on how to maintain their own healthy lifestyle.  I am still an IN brand ambassador and distributor.  You can purchase IN products from my online store and products will be shipped directly from IN within a few business days. I think I am most known for my J.Adler Lashes brand/company that was established over a decade ago.  My intense research and my extensive knowledge for hair and lashes has been shared with women all over the country through my training program and I will continue to educate any beauty industry artist who needs lash education or a refresher course to sharpen their skills.  Classes are held by reservation only.

Last but not least, I am proud to be an ‘OG’ lol, the first member (next to the Founder, Jessica Koza- make-up artist) on the WarPaint International creative beauty team.  I am constantly striving to deliver excellence in hair styling and make-up services for bridal parties.  Receiving the ‘WPI Artisan of the Year Award’ definitely boosted my confidence.

What sets me apart from other artists in the beauty industry is my dedication to education and forward movement. Knowledge is the ultimate key to success.

How do you think about happiness?
I strive to maintain a healthy, happy balance between home and work life and it is actually pretty easy to do considering that everyone I surround myself with brings me gratitude and joy.

Although I do focus on my career often, I love spending quality time with my three boys, my family, my friends and my partner. I am truly grateful for everyone in my life as they bring me strength, courage, love and joy.  Gratitude is the key to my happiness.

“When gratitude becomes an essential foundation in our lives, miracles start to appear everywhere.”  – Maureen McCullough
