Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Kraft.
Hi Jessica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I was a labor and delivery nurse for 6 years. I loved and still have so much love for that job. Nothing was greater than supporting mothers and families bringing new babies into the world. However, after I had my 3rd baby, I knew the hours would become very hard for my family and wanted a more regular schedule, so I transferred to the OBGYN clinic. To add some additional income, I decided would start selling some decorated sugar cookies. The first time I tried to make them was in December of 2021. I tried again in February 2022 and had my first few orders that same month! I created a name, started putting my work into the social media world, and became booked nearly immediately. I am now venturing into festivals and hosting cookie classes and have established myself enough that I can stay home with my 3 kids.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have never been one to know business logistics or had an interest in it, either. So learning that aspect along the way has certainly been the most difficult. I am still learning about money, contracts, timing, schedules, etc. I am doing all this while working and having a baby (Now 1), 3-year-old, and 5-year-old at home. I’ve had some very late nights with very early wake-ups.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a cottage food baker who bakes and decorates sugar cookies. I use royal icing and customize each set according to the customer’s request. I love being able to have inspiration from colors, invites, decorations, and personal details. I always work as hard as possible to mesh the cookies with the party/event being thrown. What makes me the proudest is simply seeing the joy they bring and hearing that everyone enjoyed them at the party/event. I have Customized my sugar cookie recipe to be unique and slightly different from most. I wanted to have people taste my cookies and know they are mine just from that.
Can you talk to us about happiness and what makes you happy?
100% of what makes me the happiest is my Husband and kids. My Husband has always been supportive in whatever venture I’m exploring and is my best friend.
Jackson (5) makes me so proud with his sheer ability to make friends wherever he goes and how great of a big brother he is. He is so caring and sweet.
Adeline (3) is our spunky and sassy little sweetheart. Her sweet then sour personality keeps us on our toes and constantly laughing. She has the cutest little bubbly personality and hugs that make you melt.
Callahan (1) is our explorer and baby of the family. We love seeing her curiosity and love for her big brother and sister. She has added such joy to our family.
