Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodi Donley.
Hi Jodi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started as a volunteer. Giving back to the community that gave so much to me. Upon losing their employees I stepped up to cover as a super volunteer. Then I was hired as a temporary program assistant. Then as a coordinator. Now I am the manager at our local food shelf.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggles were finding my way in a very changed world. It had been 20 years since I had last had employment. I run a small Ebay store with my husband. Going back to work was a difficult decision. But the best decision I have made in a very long time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I was a shopper. I needed food assistance during covid. I became a volunteer to give back to my community. I took that opportunity and turned it into a career. I am now the manager at our small non-profit food shelf. We implemented Super Shelf in July 2025. We made our way through the Snap crisis. I went from needing food assistance, to being a volunteer, to gaining employment and becoming a manager at 54 years old after a 20 plus year absence from the work force.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I am a go getter. A hard worker. My drive to do better, to be better, to have better for myself and my family is the quality I most admire in myself.
