Hi John, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Minnesota Veterans For Cannabis started in 2015 advocating for medical cannabis reform and full legalization. After Minnesota legalized cannabis, we now focus on providing veterans access to education and resources.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Advocating for cannabis has been a rollercoaster. We have had some great support from Minnesotans in various areas but have also encountered unfriendly opposition. Fighting cannabis stigma in our rural areas has definitely been challenging.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a disabled veteran who has dedicated my time to improving the lives of those that have served our country. Helping veterans have an alternative option from the VA prescribed medications by advocating and growing cannabis. Educating our veterans on the effects of long term opioid and benzo use and how cannabis can be useful in those situations. I am also the commander for my local American Legion Post 204 and Vice Commander for my districts area d region. I work with local law enforcement as a tool for veteran outreach for those vets who are struggling.
