Rising Stars: Meet Karwyn Swartzentruber of Minnesota

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karwyn Swartzentruber.

Hi karwyn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hello! What an honor it is that you have stopped to read my article. My name is Karwyn the creator behind Beloved Embroidery. When I was a little girl my late great-grandma Ruth taught me how to do a simple embroidery stitch. Throughout my school-aged years I embroidered several dish towels it was a good creative outlet for myself. I remember telling myself in my teenage years that I would never every own an embroidery machine. Never say never, the summer of 2023 I purchased my first single needle machine. I had a very slow start – due to working a full time job and learning the ins and outs of the machine. After years of practice and patience I now own two larger machines, and use this as an outlet while being able to stay at home with my son.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Embroidery for me has not been a smooth road. First of all, there is a lot to learn and embroidery machines and equipment is very costly. I would say the most challenging part for me was in the begining years of my single needle machine. It was tricky and very timely to make sure everything was centered and straight on the garment. As well as making sure it was hooped correctly before it went into the machine. I ruined many garments in the first year. Today, I have invested in a hooping station and magnetic hoops that make it go a lot faster. There is a lot to emboridery, and it isn’t just hitting a button and the machine does it all for you. There are so many other variables that come into play that need to be done in order to get a good quality product.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In my emboridery business I am known for faith based items, motherhood, and the littles. However, I have done many other items throughout the years. I also incoperate applique into my everyday embroidery. This can be done with regular fabric or clothing from your loved ones to make a keepsake item.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something surprising that most people may not know is I am not sure what the future is of Beloved Embroidery. As of now, I just want to focus on staying home with my son and embroider when I can. I want to use my brand to let people know that “you are loved.” So. wether beloved embroidery stays local, or one day turns into a store front – my main purpose is to just love and care for my customers.
