Today we’d like to introduce you to Kellie Ranae
Hi Kellie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I first discovered my love for photography in a film class at NDSU. I had the most amazing professors who encouraged me to pursue this path. I then interned with a local wedding photographer, and quickly realized that I absolutely lit up at weddings. I love Jesus, photography, people, and love (honorable mention: I love a good dance floor with a DJ). It’s truly a job that fills my cup, because I get to fill others’ cups! I graduated with an emphasis in photography, completed my internship, and started my own business in 2018. It’s crazy to think that was over seven years ago! Now, in 2025, I am blessed to say that I have the honor of capturing couples’ unique stories full time both locally and internationally.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The Lord truly provided and continues to provide. I was able to live at home for the first year of starting my business, which allowed me to invest in the gear I needed to take off. I am so grateful to have parents and people in my life who support my dreams. The artistic and relational side of things comes naturally to me, so I took many workshops to learn about the business side of things to get a well-rounded perspective for my own small business. Past clients, friends, and family have spread the word from the very beginning, and continue to do so. Starting my own photography business has been fun and exciting, and it has also taken a lot of work, education, experience, and prayer to build K.Ranae Photography.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a photographer who specializes in weddings, couples, and families. I photograph romantic, intentional, and timeless images with a true-to-life and vibrant editing style. I’m known for being everyone’s hype-girl, while also providing a stress-free day, so my couples can be present and really take in their wedding day with intentionality.
I believe what sets me apart is how accessible I am to my clients. I give my couples an open line of communication that they can utilize. Through questionnaires, guides, and working together with them to create custom timelines, my couples can feel supported and confident throughout the entire process from engagement to the altar – and even beyond!
My proudest moments are when a member of the bridal party reaches out after a wedding asking me to photograph their own wedding day, because they had such a fun time and fell in love with the gallery I created for the newlyweds.
Another exciting moment for me, personally, is when my couples start having babies and choose me to be their family photographer! It is so special to be a part of their biggest moments, and to give them photos that they will share with the people they love for generations to come!
