Rising Stars: Meet Keona Prokop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keona Prokop.

Keona Prokop

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I went to school for entrepreneurship at the University of St Thomas. I started my first fashion business in college, Pink Bow City, and during my senior year, I won 1st place in the Fowler Business Concept Challenge. An investor in the competition connected me with my first job opportunity at a startup in San Francisco called The Real Real. In my first role, I created YouTube videos, managed social media, and supported the marketing team. My business was taking off, so I left my role at The Real Real and relocated to LA, where most of my models and photographers were for the Pink Bow City magazine. I ran my business full-time and did part-time marketing consulting for Lavish Tan in Venice Beach, California. After years of trying to scale my business unsuccessfully, I relocated back to Minneapolis and sold my company. I then worked in various marketing roles at Betty Danger’s Country Club, Pilgrim Dry Cleaners, and the American Craft Council, gradually progressing my career to the position of Director of Marketing. My career started becoming stagnant, so I started exploring adjacent career opportunities. Through networking, I landed a role as a Relationship Development Director at a Minneapolis-based Brand, Design, and Marketing Special Projects Agency called Capsule.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
My aspirations to become an entrepreneur didn’t go how I hoped; however, I learned a lot along the way and found a role where I could use many of my strengths as an entrepreneur.

Thanks for sharing that. So, tell us more about your work next.
