Today we’d like to introduce you to Khue Lor.
Hi Khue, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always loved film from a young age, but I think my love of film really started when I took a film class in high school. In this film class, we had to watch, analyze and discuss film. We learned behind the scenes practices and ideas of how camera shots were executed by the filmmakers, stylistic choices and much more. At first, I did not like the class because it ruined my enjoyment of film, because I found myself looking at the technical aspect of film instead of enjoying the film for the pure entertainment factor. Then I realized that film was more creative and had so much art, hard work and dedication that goes along with the process of a film. Shortly after, I looked for and borrowed a camera to start creating before I finally got one of my own. I would say this was a part of me getting my start.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, I had plenty of bumps along the way. I loved the creation part of film and media, but I was not prepared for the business part of it. I was not sure how to get started with so many things. I would ask family and friends just to try to get a feeling for any projects. It takes a while to learn more about the business side of production. Another challenge is that I also have so many interests in many types of film that I did not know where to take my film direction. But I am okay with not “being in a box” with one type of film for now. I love to try out different styles of videos and photos as it can only help me grow. I now know to tell myself struggles will always be there, just got to accept the failures, as well as the victories, and learn from it as we go.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do media production projects (film and photography) for my company FILMTROVERSE Productions. I have shot some music videos, concerts, weddings, sports, fashion, travel, short film and more. I also shoot a video-based podcast called “The Social X Change Project” with my sister. (Please check it out, you will not be disappointed!) I would not say I have a project I am most proud of; I am just proud of the family and friends to help me to get to where I am now. Also, I would not say I specialize in one thing because I know I like so much more than one thing. For now, I would say specialize in “Creation” and maybe that separates me apart from the others.
What matters most to you?
If I can help make memories for others and make others happy, as well as stay in a creative space, then I am good.
