Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Christine.
Hi Kimberly , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Having an MFA degree in theater and film really set the base for my journey. It wasn’t until I moved to Savannah, Georgia that my interest in the paranormal grew as I worked for several businesses that were haunted. And one of them included being a tour guide and Paranormal Investigator inside a property that had high activity due to its location of being built over a property where a triple aXe murder occurred as well as housing slave quarters and a mass burial ground for revolutionary war soldiers.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As our time in Savannah had ended-we had moved out there for my husband’s work. We then moved completely across the other side of the US to Los Angeles, where I decided to start my own haunted walking tour on Hollywood Boulevard.
This is when my entrepreneurship needed to shine, because I had to do all the research, frequent the library with tons of books, going to certain businesses and locations and interviewing management, and building a booking system. At the time it was just phone calls I was able to take in. I didn’t really have any kind of online booking. I was running specials through Groupon and living social.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Having a Master of Fine Arts degree from California State University-Humboldt, I focused in costumes and special makeup effects. But being part of the design team and crew, we did a lot of research and that was where my skills had shined..
I’ve always loved being a leader, talking and storytelling, and I actually did have a weird dream when I was young that I was a costumed tour guide out east. So I always kind of laugh at that. It was part of my dream. I just never realized haunted tourism would be the topic.
I never really had any paranormal things happen to me in my youth or have any witchy family members. But growing up in the 80s and being in college during the times of The X-Files, I was really fascinated by science, quantum physics, the unseen.
It was through all three of the different tours that I have started from my time in California, Arizona and moving back to my hometown of Duluth, that I decided to create a business helping people start a ghost tour in their own city or haunted brewery or museum or location. It’s called “Haunted Business hub”. I worked with Lin and Coogle’s in Wisconsin to help create a haunted tour for their historic brewery.
And as a Reiki Master, I also teach Reiki classes that have a paranormal twist for any of those investigators that just want a little bit more about energy while they’re in haunted properties
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I’m an only child, and I’ve always been independent. I had also become a Reiki practitioner when I moved back out to Los Angeles I had found a group that we would occasionally meet up to share Reiki. And she taught classes and that is when I decided to becomea Reiki Master. So if there’s any connection to energy work and the paranormal that was definitely it for me.
It was great to be around other women healers. Because I was going through my own ups and downs in the marriage. And living in LA and struggling to make ends meet just did not help, so that in itself was the biggest challenge.
