Rising Stars: Meet Kimberly Fuentes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Fuentes.

Hi Kimberly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My name is Kimberly Fuentes, I’m a 21-year-old mom to two beautiful twins. I was born in Minnesota but moved to Florida when I was 8. I moved back about 4 years ago to live with my grandparents. Originally, I wanted to pursue my passion for baking but I was too scared of what people would think. When I became a mom to my babies, I lost the fear and I found the motivation I needed to do what I’ve always loved.

Since I’m a stay-at-home mom I decided to start my baking journey. I started off with a flan because I was craving it and was unable to go to the store to purchase one. Since I had the ingredients at home I got right to work. I decided to post it on Facebook and share with my friends and family what I had made. My friend immediately was excited to try it and loved it, which gave me the push to start my small business. To this day, I get 3-5 orders a week!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not necessarily at first when I was trying new things and with so many orders I was going to bed around 3 in the morning because I was baking but also making sure to take care of my babies.

But it has definitely been worth it because all the feedback I get is amazing and makes me push harder to make new things and continue to grow my small business.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I started off baking flan and it’s been my biggest hit so far! I also make chocoflan, fresaflan, chocolate-covered strawberries, tres leches cakes, and churro cheesecake so a little bit of everything! What gets me really happy is having people come back and order more because that lets me know that I’m doing a good job and people like what I’m making.

As a home baker, I’ve seen a lot of other local bakers make treats but I haven’t really seen them make flan and chocoflan so I feel like that gives me a bit of advantage in that area but everyone does such an a great job it just makes me happy that I can be part of something that brings joy to people and wanting sweets.

We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
The way I would define success is when you try your best at something and get recognized by others. In my case that would be with my customers that come back and place more orders and recommend me to others.
