Rising Stars: Meet Kris Binsfeld of Cold Spring

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kris Binsfeld.

Hi Kris, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
1. Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today?

My journey with jewelry started over 20 years ago, but my love for creating began even earlier. I grew up in a creative family, exploring artful projects. I’ve always found deep joy in the process of making—and over time, that joy evolved into a true passion for jewelry design.

My sister has been one of my biggest cheerleaders since day one. She encouraged me to start selling my work and gave me early opportunities through her occasional sales and flower shop. Her support—both big and small—has meant the world and continues to this day.

In the beginning, I worked with vintage beads and upcycled brooches, adding wirework to make unique statement pieces. Eventually, I taught myself metalsmithing, working with copper and brass, soldering, stamping, and forming metals by hand. I always gravitated toward pieces that carried meaning—often creating inspirational jewelry with words or symbols meant to empower and encourage.

With the support of my incredibly patient husband, Tom, and our three amazing kids—Keegan, Sawyer, and Kya—I’ve continued to grow and evolve in my craft. In fact, it was Kya who first suggested I offer permanent jewelry, sparking a whole new chapter in my creative journey. I held back for a while, hesitant about investing in the equipment. But when my sister asked me to bring it to my niece’s wedding in Texas, I took the leap—and I’ve never looked back. That leap turned into a beautiful chapter of creativity and connection. I’m so thankful for the incredible people I’ve met, the stories I’ve been trusted with, and the chance to make jewelry that becomes a part of someone’s journey.

Today, Cherish Designs offers everything from handmade mixed-metal pieces and permanent jewelry to personalized heirloom creations and pop-up boutique experiences. Each piece I create still carries that original spark—designed to uplift, celebrate, and connect.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
2. Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?

It definitely hasn’t always been smooth—and I think most creatives can relate to that. One of my biggest challenges was confidence. For a long time, I hesitated to work with precious metals. I let fear and self-doubt hold me back. But with encouragement from my family, I kept learning, growing, and leaning into new techniques.

Another challenge has been balancing the business side of things with the creative side. As an artist, you just want to make beautiful things—but marketing, production, events, and logistics are all part of the process. It’s been a learning curve, but also a rewarding one.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
3. (Artist/Creative) Tell us more about your professional life and career.

As an artist, I’ve always been drawn to mixing materials—metals, wire, textures, and meaningful charms. My style is rooted in emotional storytelling and personal connection. I love when clients share their stories with me and ask for custom pieces that reflect their memories, values, or people they love. That’s when the magic happens.

One of my most meaningful offerings is my “Something Old, Something New” collection. I design custom bridal jewelry using beads and elements from a loved one’s wedding dress or veil—adding a genuine sapphire for their “something blue.” These pieces hold so much sentiment and are such a powerful way to honor legacy and love.

Collaborating with Demdaco on my She Inspires collection was another dream come true. That line was created to empower women with affirmations like “fearless,” “brave,” and “hero.” In a world full of pressure, it’s important to remind women of their strength and light.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
4. Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

I truly believe jewelry is more than an accessory—it’s a form of self-expression, a reminder of who we are and who we love. I’ve been blessed to create pieces that mark life’s most important moments: weddings, births, loss, friendship, healing.

If you’re looking for a meaningful gift, a one-of-a-kind keepsake, or a sparkly pop-up experience for your event, I’d love to connect. Cherish Designs is more than a brand—it’s about celebrating connection and creating beauty with heart.
