Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristine Johnson.
Hi Kristine, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always enjoyed creating unique, themed birthday parties for my kids. When my son’s 6th birthday was approaching in the middle of the pandemic and the heart of winter, I started brainstorming what I could do to create something memorable and fun for him since he couldn’t celebrate with friends. I came up with the idea to create an indoor slumber party for him and his sister. He LOVED it!! In fact, he said it “was his BEST BIRTHDAY EVER”! After posting to social media and receiving so many positive reactions from people, I started thinking I might be onto something and started researching about starting a slumber party company and what it would entail. After several months of researching, organizing, creating and marketing, Catch a Wink was launched in May 2021! I love the excitement it brings and hearing how much fun the kids have!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest challenge was convincing myself I could execute all of this and take the initial leap! It was scary because it was all so unknown and I was building something from the ground on up! Thankfully, my husband played a huge role in being a major supporter and encourager! I’ll never forgot the first post to Instagram and the first “like”–it was metaphorically like giving birth and watching my baby grow! Family, friends and strangers were all so supportive! It reinforced this was a unique idea and people were interested!

Thank you! Catch a Wink is a themed slumber party rental for kids in the Twin Cities area. We provide a uniquely styled sleepover experience to create fun and unforgettable memories! We deliver all of the sleepover items, set it up, style it to perfection and collect it the next day. No fuss party planning–all the work is done for you! We enjoy making each sleepover special and are always looking to add more themes and find creative pieces to make the slumber party experience even better! The slumber parties can be used to celebrate a birthday, first time sleepover, special event, or just a fun themed family or friend sleepover!
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Previously working in sales, I knew marketing would play a key role in our success. I’ve found much success through social media advertising and word of mouth. Social media is also what I used to find other entrepreneurs and mentors–I DM’d them and asked questions, asked for advice, etc. People want to see others succeed–even strangers!
