Rising Stars: Meet Lorenzo Michelutti of Saint Paul

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorenzo Michelutti.

Hi Lorenzo, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Lorenzo “Ledfoot Larry” Michelutti burst onto the Twin Cities music scene as a teenager in the late ’90s, channeling the energy of alternative, classic, and progressive rock. After decades of musical exploration and countless performances, his passion for songwriting and storytelling remains as strong as ever—but with a refined focus. Today, Larry’s sound blends the heart of classic and ’90s country with the grit and honesty of rock, creating a style that’s both timeless and unmistakably his own.

Drawing inspiration from legends like Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, and the entire Traveling Wilburys crew, Ledfoot Larry delivers a captivating mix of original songs and reimagined covers. The result is a dynamic, authentic live experience that celebrates great songwriting, powerful melodies, and the spirit of true Americana.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The music ‘biz’ is never a smooth road. The highs are wonderful: connecting with your audience, expressing your art, etc. But the truth is, that you meet just as many people along the way that don’t want to see you succeed. That somehow your success takes away from THEM…and it’s been a sad thing to see over the years. You just keep going because the music itself motivates you.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Though Country music has seen a major Renaissance the last 5 or so years – including 90’s country, and classic outlaw – the music I write and perform really isn’t any of the above. And it certainly doesn’t sound or feel like what’s currently trending in Modern Country. So while any band can cover each and every song that you add to your covers repertoire, my songwriting is a very unique take on Country and Americana, and has led me to three “Maverick Award” nominations by the Midwest Country Music Organization, and saw me take home the award in 2024.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Be yourself. It’s a waste of time trying to be like anybody else.
