Today we’d like to introduce you to Minu John.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi, I am Minu John, who works as a Realtor at eXp Realty and entrepreneur of my business with Heavenly Homes. I hail from a beautiful state called Kerala in South India. Having done my grad school major in Finance, I first worked in accounting with a Japanese Fishing company in Tokyo, Japan where my husband was working. We moved to the US in 2012 and settled in Woodbury, Minnesota for the past 10 years with my husband John and 3 beautiful daughters.
In the US I started as a cashier in Kohls and also worked with Health Partners and 3M as an accountant. I was lucky to meet a realtor who introduced me to the Real Estate Industry. First I was reluctant but wanted to take up larger challenges with my career as I’m a people person. My first client was myself when we bought our home. At first, I was apprehensive but things started falling in place. But with the grace of God, I could help my clients with buying/selling over 250+ homes and commercial properties over the last 5 years in the twin cities area. I’m passionate about doing the best for my clients who gave me the best review ratings and all my new clients are by referrals of my past clients.
I like to push my bar higher in each step and I got licensed as a Building Contractor in 2021. I’m planning to expand my business with Heavenly Homes Constructions. Now I’m convinced this is the area of business I love to be in and chase my passion.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wanted to be in a corporate job like every other friend I had. Getting my first job in the US was a challenge. After having my kids, a full time job became difficult to manage. I knew my passion is elsewhere being a networking person and I entered the Real Estate industry. As with any new job, the learning curve was steep. There were many unknowns. Something I love about the ‘Nice Minnesotans’ is their helpful nature with any questions I had and the support I needed. I thankfully remember everyone who has helped me through the journey I’ve been through with the support, knowledge and mentorship. I’m glad we moved here from Tokyo though it’s a big change from a massive metropolis to the midwest.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Everyone has a lot of innate talent, strengths and passion. Though the fear of the unknown pulls us back, taking up the challenges will strengthen us to take up larger ones. There are many things to learn and try out there to chase our dreams. The best way to get help and mentorship is to ask for it and not be shy about it. There’s no challenge that we can’t overcome if we have the will for it. If we put our heart and soul into what we are doing, we can achieve more than what we can imagine.
