Today we’d like to introduce you to Mohamed Ali.
Hi Mohamed, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My family and I decided to pursue a goal and open a restaurant that will be a staple of our community. I come from a big family of 6 boys and 2 girls, being able to work together is a dream come true. Running a restaurant has always been a family goal for us and getting the opportunity to buy and build in our neighborhood was perfect.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It wasn’t always a smooth road starting our family business due to various obstacles like finances, time, regulations and weather. All these things played a huge role in delaying our plan to start our family business.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Our business is called Karibu which means “welcome” in Swahili. We decided to name our business Karibu because we wanted to be a place our community felt comfortable and at home.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
The advice I’d give to people in networking is to be genuine and have respect for everyone no matter what they ca n do for you. When respect is coming from an honest place, people can see that. Build with those who see eye to eye with you and your dreams.
