Today we’d like to introduce you to Myiah Jewison.
Hi Myiah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
At 20 years old, I made a bold decision to change my life. I was working overnight shifts at a domestic violence shelter when I realized I wanted something different—something creative and freeing. I started doing lash extensions and soon after explored permanent makeup and tattooing. While permanent makeup didn’t feel like the right fit, tattooing instantly sparked something in me—and I knew I had found my passion.
By 21, I had fully committed to tattooing and never looked back. Becoming self-employed at 20 was both challenging and empowering, but it allowed me to build a life around doing what I love. I’ve had the honor of working with so many amazing clients, and it means everything to me to be able to create art that lives on through them. I love designing pieces that work with each client’s unique body and curves—every tattoo is a collaboration, and every one tells a story.
This journey has taught me that if you put your mind to something and are willing to work hard, you can truly create the life you dream of. I’m living proof of that—and I’m just getting started.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey hasn’t always been easy. There were many moments of self-doubt—wondering if I was creative enough, good enough, or even looked like what people expected a tattoo artist to be. I’ve had clients make comments that made me question if I belonged in this industry, but I’ve learned that true talent and passion don’t need to fit a stereotype.
Moving to a new city without knowing anyone was one of the hardest parts. I had to rebuild from scratch—no clients, no connections. To keep myself afloat, I was doing DoorDash and Instacart runs between appointments just to pay the bills. And even now, being self-employed means the paycheck isn’t always guaranteed. It’s a constant hustle—but one I chose because I believe in the life I’m building.
These struggles shaped me. They made me tougher, more grounded, and even more grateful for every client who sits in my chair. I’ve learned to trust myself, to push through fear, and to let my art speak for itself.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in fine line and ornamental tattoos, with a focus on soft, feminine designs that complement the natural flow and curves of the body. My goal is to create art that feels elegant, intentional, and deeply personal—tattoos that enhance rather than overpower.
I’m drawn to delicate details, balanced patterns, and pieces that feel like an extension of the person wearing them. Whether it’s a simple floral design or an intricate ornamental layout, I take pride in crafting work that feels both beautiful and meaningful.
Each tattoo is a collaboration, and I love helping clients bring their vision to life in a way that honors their individuality and style.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Based in Burnsville, Minnesota, I’m proud to call this vibrant suburb home. Living here offers the perfect balance—peaceful, community-focused living with easy access to the dynamic energy of the Twin Cities. This blend allows me to draw inspiration from a diverse range of clients and experiences, enriching my artistry and broadening my perspective.
Burnsville’s supportive local businesses and welcoming atmosphere have been instrumental in my growth. The proximity to Minneapolis and St. Paul also means I can connect with a wide array of clients, each bringing their unique stories and visions to my studio.
Being part of this community has not only shaped my journey but continues to inspire me every day. Whether you’re from Burnsville or beyond, I’m here to collaborate with you and bring your tattoo ideas to life.
