Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Cartwright.
Hi Nick, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Born in Chicago, IL then quickly moved to Minnesota. I started skateboarding in 3rd grade and have been in love with it. From skateboarding, I started to develop a sense of style and became fascinated with the fashion world. One of my friends stole a VHS camera from the thrift store and gave it to me. I started filming my friends and different shows and events and made into a mini job for me. After a few years of working on VHS, I started my brand called HIDDEN FACES. From that, I put down the camera and quickly got into Design. I started with t-shirts and eventually moved my way up to cut and sewn pieces. I started to attend New York fashion week every year and connected with a lot of people all over the world. Then from that I just started traveling and meeting new people.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a creative is a hard long road. Sleeping on couches, being broke, selling clothes you love to wear. Doing whatever it takes to make your dream come to life.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do many things. I hate labels because I don’t like being put in a box. The thing I’m most known for is Design. Clothing design specifically. But I also do styling, casting, creative direction, and videography, and now I’m working on producing music. I’m proud of many things, but one is designing the BU VISION logo which eventually turned into a chain.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
God, my parents/family, Ceci, Anthony, and Noah. Kaycyy and everyone on the team. They all saw the vision.
