Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Pleshe
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always been interested in all the aspects of photography. I grew up wanting to model & be on the other side of the lens. I became a brick and mortar boutique owner at 24. We had photoshoot often and that aspect of photography really taught me a lot about angles and flattering viewpoints. During Covid I heartbreakingly closed my brick and mortar boutique. With 4 littles at home and the world upside down, I had no idea what God would have in store for me next. I had always had a love for photography but never got to explore outside of the boutique and capturing our own kiddos. I dove in and haven’t looked back! I started small with outdoor sessions and low investments. I felt pulled strongly on this new path. I took a dive into a temporary month to month studio until last fall having a forever business home. The world as a photographer has felt like my true calling and I have been really protective about creating a flexible, yet busy schedule that prioritizes our family!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Yes actually! I think going into photography with so much business experience already, I knew exactly what I wanted and needed to make it work. I got busy and booked very quickly and that was a learning curve for sure!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I absolutely love the creative and artistic side of photography. I feel like I have the eye for capturing as well as the heart for editing all the details, I love to enhance all the seasons if outdoors. Pops of color and accenting the beautiful terrain of Minnesota is something I love. In my studio I love to capture natural, bright, airy looks. I love to focus on the family or the features of little ones, rather than busy backgrounds. As a mama of soon to be 5, I am most proud of my work with maternity, newborn, milestone, family, and seniors. I just adore seeing growth! Some of my seniors have come back years later for maternity and newborn and that is just extra special to me!
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Very much so! I feel I have made really calculated choices in the last few years, but to get where I am now started with a lot of risk taking. As a boutique owner, I had to take tons of risks. High rent, large boxes of inventory…but with that came constant pressure to perform. We would have babies and I would be back in my boutique the next week. It honestly became a lot even though I loved it so much. So stepping and growing into photography I was very protective about not doing as much financial risk taking, and finding a more peaceful success. I wanted the option to stop or step away any time if needed.
